I see a lot of people arent that high on Vitali. For the life of me I cannot find fault with the guy. He has a solid resume, great power, a great chin and very good defense. The only downs on him are he is injury prone and his fair skin will tear easily.

It is hard to compare fighters over time. Sports training and sports science has changed so much.

A prime Tyson would be a good match-up. Same with Lewis.

With the rest, Tyson, Lewis, and Vitaly would beat them all.

A old out of shape Lewis beat him in his prime, I don't think he should rank that high.

IMO Holmes is the most underrated HW of all time too. The man gets no credit.

Very difficult to compare him to a marciano who would be a cruiser or LHW today, I understand that. So lets just assume its peak for peak.

This fight was controversial though. It was the cuts..I dont want start that argument here, but that fight wasnt one sided.

I'd rate Ali, Holmes and Lewis as the least likely for Vitali to defeat.

Vtali beats Guys like Dempsey, Marciano, and Louis just becasue of the sheer advantage in size he has. Most of them today would have either had to add some muscle or fight at cruiserweight. Ali would be too fast for him. And Holmes is one of the most Underrated HW of all time and had fast, powerful job. A prime, Tyson (1985-90) Would beat him. So would a prime Lewis. He might have been too strong for evander.

Objective fans will look at Vitaly. His KO %. His opposition. His speed, power, mentality etc. At how he does in fights - especially fights such as the LL fight.

The conclusion is most likely that Vitaly could hang with any former or present HW.

Haters on the other hand will close their eyes to the fact that Vitaly was winning against Lewis before the stoppage - and just look at boxrec that there is an L next to the fight.

Vitaly is the real deal. Very Big, very strong, fast, mentally very strong and so on. Prime Tyson vs Vitaly would be so good to watch. I have no idea who would win there.

Vitali may have been able to keep a Tyson, Marciano or Dempsey away with his height and reach. He might also be too much for Evander like Lewis was but the rest of those guys I think would beat Vitali in their primes, maybe not easily or by KO but would win.

    No, it was not controversial.

    Witherspoon-Holmes was controversial.
    Holmes-Spinks 2 was controversial.
    Ellis-Patterson was controversial.

Klitschko was unfortunate to suffer a cut, but there's nothing controversial about it. Lewis won fairly.

An undertrained, inactive for a year, Lewis.

The answer is easy: None of them.

This is an old stupid argument. You simply can't compare fighters of different eras. There are too many variables...health, better nutrition, weight lifting, training, etc....You can only compare the how well the resprective fighters compared with their contemporaries...which is why Joe Louis will always be the best heavyweight of all time. He have the most defenses and he was the most dominant against the competition. You can argue all day and night about the stength of the eras and competition...But in the end, you can't compare fighters from different eras.
