Excellent to me means someone who sets up clean shots with good footwork, beats his opponent to the punch with perfect combinations or lands single powershots at will, while avoiding the return fire. Being "good" at basics doesn't mean excellence. Erdei is excellent, he beats fighters on technique alone, with almost no firepower, and horrible fading in the second half of the fight. Holyfield is a much better technician than Bowe, Bowe beat him with trading, size, and resilience. That is suicide when fighting Klitschko. Bowe had a very good jab in this fight, but that would fall short with someone like Vitali who is the antithesis to getting out-jabbed. Everything else may have been ok, but not spectacular, technically. Vitali doesn't fight on the inside at all, fights tall, wouldn't lose a trading game with Bowe, and masterfully works the distance. BTW, I think I now know where all this "Bowe would" comes from. To me it looks like the amateur Bowe was much better technically than the later pro Bowe. His work ethics seems to have failed him to the extent of taking away all his speed and moving: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-z7wFR8dJYg[/ame]
If Bowe fought Vitali like he fought Holyfield then he would lose, of course, but why would he fight two such different fighters in exactly the same way? But what top drawer jabbers has Vitali faced? This is where the whole house of cards comes tumbling down because Vitali just doens't have those kind of victories. It's not like he out-jabbed a fighter like Pinklon Thomas, never mind one as good as Bowe. As soon as we start labelling a fighter who is 0-1 versus the greats he's taken on "the antitheseis of getting out-jabbed" it is legitimate to say, "well, who has he proven this against?" Well I disagree with you. I think his technical punching on the inside is exactly that, spectacularly good. He got out-fought verus Lennox Lewis there in the sense that he lost that fight. I don't think Bowe would need to trade with him. I think that the right hand lead which is a punch you've criticised is exactlyt he sort of punch needed to both close the distance and gather points. The result would most often be an inside exchange/clinch in my opinion, and Bowe is winning in there Against who? Vitali just hasn't been in with a guy who is expert at closing the distance!
I voted yes because I think a healthy Vitali poses threats against many ATG heavyweights... As long as he didn't have any injuries.
Yes he would! He has great boxingskills, he's got the size, adapts well during the fights and wins the fights pretty easy......
He's focused, but I want so he is more focused than all his predecessor, nor would I ever compare his focus to Marciano. That's just me though.
I'm struggling to think of a fighter at any weight presented so frequently with no-hoper competition who arrived so consistantly well prepared as Vitali has even when well past prime. Even Bernard Hopkins has admitted to needing a challange to get him up for his normal routine, although he's certainly comparable. I've yet to see a crack in Vitali's focus and i've yet to see any complacency from him.
Well.. yes... I mean no... I mean... **** this... He wouldn't. Golota may have the best physique in the world but he was a mental midget. Grant was just one inch taller.
He is a monster in this or any era. His only 2 losses were because of injury, and he has the highest knockout percentage (90.2%) of any heavyweight boxing champion.
Foreman lost to Schultz, but judges gave foreman a split decision, IBF order a rematch, so Foreman gave up his title rather than fight Schultz again. Vlad stopped Schultz in the either round. Vlad was the first to stop Schultz.
I think so. I would be more condifdent if he used his size better. He uses it well but sometimes fights like he is closer to 6'0" than to 6'7" or however tall he is. He moves his body well but would be better off using distance better. His Jab also concerns me. Yes his Jab. It is a great offensive weopen. Probbly better than a lot of heavyweight's stright rear hand punch. However it is not realy used to find range or to set up other punches. His punches are 1 and 2, 1 and 2. Rather that 1,2 1,2. In other words, each punch is seprate from each other rather than in combonations. Someone with speed like Ali and Tyson should be able to beat him to the punch. Also because he dose not use his highth and reach as well as he could boxers who are also tall and with long reach are going to be able to hit him. Rather or not you think he was winning or not against Lewis. Lewis was able to hit him and hurt him.
