Cool then, Lennox was still the lineal champ though, even though Ruiz & Byrd held belts that were about as useless as Povetkin's is now. Lewis is a favorite HW of mine but he did contribute to the splitting of the title, which is bad for boxing.
40-year-old Vitali showed the world he could still give Chisora a boxing lesson with one hand. On EPIX before the fight, Freddie Roach was saying the key to a Chisora victory was getting inside of Vitali's left jab and working the body. Vitali tore his ligament in his left shoulder after the 3rd rnd, yet was able to adjust and still defeat Chisora with just his right. So much for Roach's theory. Vitali will still be a force to be reckoned with in his next couple of fights. Only two HW's can say they defended the HW title after 40 (The other George Foreman) Vitali doesn't have anything to prove. He's done it already :good :bbb
That's a good point and surely something to add to the legacy and all time rankings. That'll just kill the haters....................:yep
Very good decision if Vitali steps away. Every great champion needs to know when to call it quits and the time is definitely now for Vitali. In my mind, his younger brother is much more technically sound and the better boxer and probably has a few more years left, but for Vitali, the time is now!
Once there is an undisputed champion the belts are irrelevant. When Lewis was champion there was no argument, Byrd and Ruiz holding belts meant nothing. Buffer says it best 'The Linear, Legitamate and universally recognised Undisputed heavyweight champion of the world...' < I would love to hear that again.
I get the feeling he'll fight Dimitrenko in Ukraine for his last fight prior to retiring. A soft fellow Ukrainian opponent that will see him finish off with a big KO.
