He utilizes his advantage in height very well to allow himself to lean back and avoid an opponents attack, defensively sound yes, slick...no just no.
no matter how slick vitali gets no matter what he do or will do no matter what he has done Prime Lennox Lewis TKO3 Prime Vitali Old Fat Faded Lennox Lewis TKO6 Prime Vitali Prime Lennox Lewis KO1 Wlad
Being slick isn't just about leaning back to get out of reach of a shorter mans punches, that's more just exposing their lack of reach. Go watch a guy like Pernell Whitaker's lateral movement compared to Vitali's and this thread just becomes laughable really. I'm not saying Vitali has a bad defense but I wouldn't call it entirely slick either. Wladimir has the superior defense out of the two brothers.
I would say because he's so tall and likes to fight from range, he can operate from further away, meaning where people see his leaning back away from punches as a weakness I think its actually a strength.
Given how hard he is to hit cleanly, if you don't agree he's defensively *slick*, you are failing to acknowledge the obvious. We all agree that he uses his height to its full advantage and avoids shots so well, but the reflexes are also a big factor in his defense. He leans in, taunting an opponent, and can time and lean back outta range, then lean back in and land his own shot..........its amazing to see him move so well, given that he's so big. Never been another like him and its gonna be a long time before we see someone else this big, and this good.
Wait, you just questioned the chin of Vitali? Is that a mistake on your part? Typo? Vitali withstood Lennox's best uppercuts & those uppercuts are some of the most powerful ever in the sport. Vitali has never been officially knocked down in a pro boxing match...........how many other HW's in history can say the same? As far as his defensive ability I've always commented on how he leans in, pulls straight back & goads his opponents into throwing punches that he can counter off of. This style works for him partially due to his size, reach, reaction time & the awkward, unpredictable style it creates. How can a fighter prepare to fight someone with a style virtually no one uses? How can you pick sparring partners to imitate that style? No it doesn't look pretty but it's very effective & his accuracy & workrate make him a very tough opponent for any Heavyweight in history.
If you really believe that you don't know **** about boxing. You're probably one of those guys that claims prime Mike Tyson would KO both on the same night................ The facts: Prime Lewis was KO'd by much lesser fighters than Wlad or Vitali. Prime Wlad was KO'd by much lesser fighters than Lewis. It swings both ways...........thought provoking? It is.
Having a huge height advantage does wonders for a punchers defense. We would be able to evaluate his slickness if his opponents were 6'8 as he is. Vitali has good defense, but leaning back to avoid punches is not exactly slick. Effective, yes, but slick,,,,,,, no.
Stiff, awkward, upright robot = slick ??? Thats either a bad joke or yet another troll thread by the TS
Vitali is an Iron Chinned Warrior and along with PBF are the only two unbeatable fighters in the World today.
