As a fan of Vitali's, I was concerned when I saw his bout against Kevin Johnson. While it is true that it is difficult to hurt someone when they refuse to exchange, the Dr. Ironfist has clearly lost a step, or two and he is prime for the taking. Presently, I believe there are three guys out there right now that could take him: his brother, Haye and Eddie Chambers. I know that one fight does not a career define, but the fact is that Vitali has now looked shakey in two bout in a row. He looked beatable in the first few round against Gomez and he looked ineffectual throughout the entire fight against Johnson. I sincerely think it's time for him to hang em' up. But what do you think?
He's probably only got a couple of fights left in him in my opinion. He is a touch slower and doesn't punch with as much venom, but he is still an awkward fighter.
I agree with this, to some extent. No doubt he has lost some power, or is too aware of his hands to throw bombs like he used to. I still don't think Haye or Chambers would beat him, although I think there is an outside chance that Haye could beat him. It was frustrating to watch Vitali fail to KO Johnson, when I knew a younger version of him (or current Wladimir) would have beaten him to a pulp in the middle rounds. But lets not get carried away- he did win every round of that fight. VK is not unbeatable, but neither is he 'far from' unbeatable. I'm really hoping a fight with Valuev comes off, because it will be a big event, and big name for his resume- and then I think one more fight for Vitali (unification?) and then he can ride off into the sunset as a champion :happy:hi:
Valuev and Haye and then retire. That would be a great way to go out IMO. Although I actually would prefer Haye to Wlad as I think it would be a bigger event and a better fight, either one will do.

Yes, I know that Vitali fought Arreola between these two fights, but it simply slipped my mind. atsch
I don't want to see a Klitschko-Klitschko fight (I oppose it for the same reason their mother does) but Valuev then Haye would be fantastic! It seems almost too much to ask in boxing though
He looked so bad against Kingpin because he refused to engage. The most meaningful punch Johnson threw was after the final bell rang. Can't really judge Vitali from that perfomance. He looked like the same old Vitali to me vs. Arreola
The thing is, KJ was letting VK commit- and then throwing a jab in response. Its not very impressive to hit a guy with a jab when you should really be throwing a hook or straight right. Its true there were times when he was getting hit in the middle of the ring, but I think KJ deserves some credit. I think there are fights out there that he can win if he isn't over-awed by the occasion and decides to throw more punches. You make a valid point though
Since Vitali's comeback he DESTROYED Peter, Gomes and Arreola, who at least came to fight and not to run, in a impressive fashion. Johnson was that much scared shitless he might share the same destiny, that he simply refused to fight and kept running and ducking for the entire fight. You can't judge a boxer on such a occation only, NOBODY would have looked good in the right with Johnson that night. Timo Hoffmann survived 12 round with an uninjured Vitali some 10 years ago without running and ducking, THAT was an accoplishment, what Johnson did was mere disgusting, and if you in earnest think you can judge Vitali based on the Johnson fight, you have no idea whatsoever. Just wait and see who Vitali fights next and how he does the job. I bet he will not make the same mistake again and will find a MAN to fight next not a scared shitless *****...
He did look good against Arreola, but I'm wondering if that means he still has it or just that Arreola is easier to hit than a 20-dollar hooker on Bourbon street. I mean, most of us saw him fight Minto, who is little more than a club fighter, and Chris was getting tagged.
People forget to realize that Vitali is 38 and that KJ is a very good defensive fighter. KJ would of gave many other top heavies the same problems he gave Vitali that nite. Plus, KJ didn't want to fight that nite. He was on the defensive the whole nite.
