Vitali - James Toney

I'm not sure much can be learned from 3 rounds against a sub prime Rahman that were close. The slurred speech and the steroid aided close fight vs Batchelder tell me more. I don't see what the point of either Klitschko fighting Toney. He doesn't have the size, power or stamina to deal with them and he isn't close to the top. He was a great fighter but those days are gone.

 

I still don't think it was controversial and I saw the fight many times, it was a close fight. Everytime Toney threw Peter fired back with 2-3 shots for Toney ONE punch at a time. Yes Toney was more accurate but Peter was also more active and answering back to whatever Toney threw. That's what made the fight close in my opinion, not even close to "clear" or "dominating" for either fighter. Gotsev was as confused as Peter was awaiting the result because all of them(including Peter) knew it was close and could go either way.

 

I dont see it happening. Dont see enough marketability to make it worth the time. IMO it would be a 1 sided fight ala Vitali/Peter

Toney has consistently been poor at heavyweight. After every fight, there are always a ton of excuses pouring out from toney fans. Oh he wasnt in shape, he wasnt focused, now Im reading something about he didnt train right and was bodybuilding.

And before every Toney fight, it is "an inshape james toney" I wish I had a dime everytime Ive seen that on ESB. Face it, james toney hasnt been in shape since the Jirov fight. James toney could never even pick up an ABC belt properly even when the division and paper champions are complete ****.

Toney would never beat vitali in a million years, that much is obvious. He sure as hell isnt going to beat him at 40 and without roids.

 

though I agree with you Toney was in shape for the Holyfield fight. It was the only time he has been in shape at Heavyweight. He just kept getting fatter and fatter.

That being said he would need a step ladder to hit Vitali.

 

You can see that it is very hard for even the best of Toney fans to make a case for Toney without using phrases "could have" "should have" or "if"

 

Guys, Toney hasn't looked the same since testing positive for steroids in the Ruiz fight. He hasn't had the same stamina and/or punch output.

 

That's the reason why he looked impressive against Ruiz and was constantly throwing. One fight later and he LOST to Rahman, I know it was a draw but he actually lost.

Johnson brutally KO'd, Sanders brutally punished/TKO'd, Williams brutally KO'd, Peter brutally punished/TKO'd and so on. You think Toney will be able to go the distance against Vitali?, a man way smaller, lacks any serious power and lacks serious activity/stamina at 39?

Vitali won't just TKO him he will make sure Toney starts to praise both him and his brother 24/7 after the thrashing he will give him. Toney declined that fight when he needed any major fight the most for a reason.

 

At any stage of his career, Toney would have lost to either Klitschko in one - sided fashion. He is considerably shorter than Peter, Kirk Johnson, Herbie Hide and other undersized fighters that could not land anything on Vitali. Toney's counterpunching style just doesn't work against a 6'8 power puncher with excellent reflexes.

Vitali had nothing but trouble with Byrd? He outlanded Byrd in that fight 2:1Byrd did well by not being KTFO'ed, alright.
