Look. many of the older fighters could beat the big Klitchkos or Joshua or Lewis size guys, but that advantage takes away the skill variable a little. The Joshua vs. Wilder fight in my mind will be decided on the size difference or weight difference of Joshua to Wilder.

Yes, good point Louis beat 31 ring magazine ranked opponents. How many of them would be ranked from 1996-2009 while Vitali was active? Give me a number please. I say many would not even be heavyweights, others with 10+ looses would be journeyman at best. Suddenly these 31 ranked guys thinks to a much lower number

Vitali beat at least 9 ranked opponents ( Can't count them on one hand ) in the top ten when he fought them, and other such as Donald, Briggs or or Williams who I think were not in the top ten were past world alphabet champions, better than some of the guys who gave Joe Louis trouble.

Louis defended his title against many ranked contenders and fought ranked contenders before he became champ,he also beat 3 recent heavyweight champions,Sharkey,Baer,Carnera, before he got his title chance .

Vitali only fought a handful of ranked fighters and defended his versions of titles against NINE unranked fighters.
It's that simple. How many number one contenders did Vitali fight? NONE! How many number 2 contenders?NONE !

Outside of Lewis, he never fought anyone higher than number 3 and only 2 of them, Adamek and Sanders.
Briggs held a version of the world title in1997, he fought Vitali in2010!Thirteen years later!

Williams never held a world title ,neither did Donald, both were unranked when Vitali fought them, as was Briggs.
    Hoffman Unranked
    Bean. Unranked
    Purrity. Unranked
    Norris.Unranked
    Hide Unranked
Five defences of his titles against ranked opponents 4 for the WBC, 1 for the WBO. Byrd which he lost
The only ranked fighters Vitali faced were
    Lewis .Champion ' Lost
    Byrd. 10. Lost
    Arreola 7. Won
    Adamek.3.Won
    Kevin Johnson.8.Won
    Sanders.3.Won
    Peter.7.Won

Seven fighters ,5 wins 2 losses.

You might want to check again as both Solis and Chisora were ranked by ring magazine when Vitali beat them. Kevin Johnson was also ranked.

With so many errors and an agenda, its hard to take your posts at face value.

    DOH.

when your boast is derrick chisora, do you not even once stop to think "ummmm am i right actually?"

Not to mention solis retiring injured in seconds.... if you had any self respect you'd not have brought them up in the first place!

It is all woulda, coulda, shoulda with you, and ignoring what actually did happen, and what didn't happen.

We can never know how many of Louis's opponents would have been ranked today.

We do however know where they were ranked in Louis's day.

You just seem to retreat behind hypothetical's, when you don't like the facts of history.
    Ring Magazine Rankings only please.

There was no such thing as an alphabet title in Louis's day.

If there had been, he might have beaten 50 people who held some sort of ranking.

Even if I accepted your figure of nine (which I don't), that would be less than a third of what Louis beat.
