He might have been old yet he still considered a rematch with Tyson when Vitali deserved a rematch more. When that didn't happen, he kept quiet then announced his retirement one day before being stripped.

Wild and inaccurate assumption. A better, more meaningful fight? Of course. A bigger payday? Not on this planet.

Lewis is still a great fighter.

top 10 of all time definetly.

    I dont think hes a *****.

i dont think that fight made him retire.

I just think vitali was boxing better than lennox in that fight.
Many people have facts saying that even emanual steward beleived that lennox got lucky.

i will never take anything away fron lennox who can deny that hes a great fighter.

You make a valid point but this is where the business aspect damages the sport. A fight with Tyson is a huge event generating a massive purse and an easy nights work. Conversely he could fight Vitali for a big (yet considerably smaller pursue) and have a tough possible even a distance fight which would potentially be as brutal as the first.

He was interested enough in picking Tyson apart but at his age didn't really fancy a slugfest. This is perfectly understandable to me- he lost his hunger for a fight, Tyson II would not have been one.

The guy is kidding himself on:-( Lewis stopped him, simple as that, the guy was a mess after the fight. In a rematch Lewis would have gotten in better condition and laid a beating on his robot ass for sure, get over it big Klit

Lennox was ****ing 38. The slowest, heaviest version of Lennox TKO6 Vitali. All the bollocks about Vitali leading on the scorecards doesn't matter.

Lewis was entitled to retire then, he had secured his legacy, he'd reached an age when most fighters usually retire unless they need the money. At that stage Lewis didn't need to do anything for anyone.

Vitali and his fans are still sore about it 7 years later . Vitali should have spent more time securing his own legacy as a great HW rather than trying to bait Lennox into a rematch that was never going to happen.

It's not like it wasn't a clear win. Lewis punched him so hard that his face was falling off. The cuts weren't from a freak elbow or clash of heads, they were from being punched repeatedly in the face.

Calling it a fluke it like calling a KO a fluke because both rely on a punch landing in the right place in the right way and if things were slightly different it likely wouldn't have. Nevermind the fact that Vitali had something like 3 different cuts in different areas by the end.

He fought a great fight and came up short against a better fighter. It happens all of the time in boxing. A rematch would only have told us whether or not Vitali could beat an even older Lewis. We already knew he couldn't beat a 37 year old Lewis with one eye on retirement, why should we care if he could beat a 38 year old with both eyes on retirement?
