I don't think he's near 6'4. Watch the German video link of the weigh in...When Vitali walks up to Gomez, he looks at least 6 inches taller.
Walk up occurs around 18 seconds in.

He's officially listed as 6'3 1/2"

If you watch the Oliver McCall fights, he looks like he's close to 6'4"

 

They come in heavy because they are psyched out. They come to beleive their only hope is to land the crazy wild shot with the extra force of weight behind it.

They know they can't effectively outbox or outpoint or outsmart Vitali in the ring. Vitali has been winning over every oppoennt with his style, he barely has lost any rounds. His career might be the most dominant ever, how many rounds has he lost? two to Lewis, one or two to Byrd.

The Only hope for anyone is a crazy lucky heavy bomb.

 

I think the weight-issue of his opponents is just a coincidence - but I agree with tysonlewisbook, Vitali has had the most dominating career of all boxers I have followed so far.

I think 4 inch size difference is about right, but it's still a significant factor.

Gomez wheighted in fully clothed, meaning he's 226lbs, which is pretty much ideal shape for this fight. About his height, he's 6'3" with long arms.

Vitali is in usual great shape and looks to be the 6'7.5" he is listed at, 4,5 inches taller than Gomez.

 

Although taller, Vitali won't have the lenght advantage for this fight.

 

yes at the 18 second mark he looked a good 6 inches taller but in every staredown photo (and on the video) they looke about 4 inches apart tops. 4 inches would put gomez at 6'3 3/4 if vitaly's height is correct and jcg is listed about that and has been for some time. a 6'3 plus athlete who lifts a lot of weights and has a decent sized frame is gonna easily get to about 230 IMO

Holy hell Vitali is an enormous man! But he's coming into this fight as his usual weight... not sure about Gomez though, from what I'm hearing here 230 is too big for him, and Vitali does have a histrory of fighting opponents who come in out of shape and then smashing them. You'd think that by now his opponets would smarten up and have enough respect for the guy to come in shape.

 

For a fighter that started out as a light-heavyweight, yeah it is too much weight. But, he doesn't look too overweight...he is not a small guy.

He seems to have grown into this weight class pretty well.

 

It looks more like 6 inches in that picture.
