    Vitali Klitschko - An ATG?

Lets have a look and decide

    1. 45-2 (41KOs)
    2. 15 -2 (12KOs) in world title fights
    3. Retired as champ, returned nearly 4 years later to reclaim the title in his first fight back.
    4. Only ever lost on injury in fights he was winning and never behind on points when the fights ended
    5. Beat - reigning world champs in Hide, Peters, Sanders (vacated), then beat top HWs and other decent names in Adamek, Johnson, Williams, Arreola, Solis, Chisora to name a few.
    5. Won WBO & WBC HW titles
    6. Never KOd, never knocked down

So is Vitali Klitschko an ATG?

    Discuss with reasons either way

    Did jab hack your account?

First you need to define ATG.

Nobody hacked my account, though it has happened before.

I am not looking for what I define as ATG. I am asking for the opinions of others.

Can you answer with an opinion? :think

Nice set of stats you got there , which mean nothing at the end of the day. Have a mull over this famous quote often referenced by Winston Churchill.

Can you give some reasons for your decision? ie Opponents, defences, record etc

To me ATG is a term reserved to the very best of the division, and Vitali is far from having a worthy resume.

He's not really an ATG, although he had the physical ability to become one.

Unlike his brother, he started boxing late and his old kickboxing injuries hampered his career (he lost four years).

    Agreed.

Not his fault he was in a weak era, but the fact is, his resume is terrible and his brother beat more of the top HWs and his resume is better than Vitali's.

    A lot better

What's your take Bailey? What's ATG to you and does Vitali make the cut?

Absolutely. A discussion on whether Wlad is an ATG is much more interesting.

Good champion for the Russian people.
Existed in a talent deficient era where his main opponents (Ibeabucci & Tua) got derailed with legal and managerial obstacles denying him career defining match-ups.
The Klitschos filled a void where nothing exists and made a lot of money in the process.
Neither will ever go down in history as ATGs. They will be seen as average skilled champions on the level of a Michael Moorer or paper champions like Joe Calzaghe.

Do you not think Vitali was the best of his division?
Why do you not think so?

How was the era weak? There are eras at present which I think are weak compared to others in MW, SMW, LHW but didnt think HW was, just think that it has been cleared out by the Klitschkos

I dont class myself as qualified enough to truly make the call, but my personnal opinion would be that yes Vitali to me would be an ATG.
    Never truly beaten.
Beat many of the top HWs of his era and never struggled when doing so.
Many defences, world titles, retired and came back to win the title in his first fight back.
    Good resume.
Never knocked out, never down, big KO%

    After he retires
