I read somewhere that he said all he sees in the ring is a blur. He said this supposedly before the Briggs fight. Now it makes sense why he's always raising his eyebrows in the ring before his fights. Have you guys heard anything about this?
I think it's just a psych up- & intimidate-technique.. You see that happening in the gyms when lifters go to maximum plates.
Boxers go through pre-fight medical examinations as well as other examinations for licensing; this includes an opthamological exam. That said, Vitali's eyes are fine.
Do you have a link? Regarding raising of the eyebrows, i think thats just due to concentration and visualization.
He might have damaged his vision in the Lewis fight but I haven't heard anything about it. What I saw in certain moments were indications of knee problems, like he can't plant his feet properly. The loss of one-punch power is pretty evident plus he changed his style a bit, less aggressive and rather looks for speed and timing than creating full force off his feet which obviously puts pressure on the knees. He's a lot more effective this way, but less devastating. I do feel every since he came back that there are time bombs everywhere around his body, injuries were always part of his career, in fact they led to his only defeats, but so far so good. Considering he was retired by injuries, where he's at and what he's doing, how he's doing at 40 is incredible.
"I read somewhere that he said all he sees in the ring is a blur." Are you sure it isnt mean as a metaphor to just say that he doesnt remember the fights and is on autopilot in there and they seem over before they started sort of thing? I mean we dont even have the exact quote and it could have been a translated quote or with his english ect its hard to tell, just from that sentence it isnt enough to mean to me that he said he had physical eye problems
