I think Lennox was done, but Vitali was as well... (IMO anyway).

He is a classy guy - but I suppose in life when you have one opportunity that you know will never come around again, for you to reach sporting Everest...... and it gets snatched away I cannot say how I would react either.

Being an RL man, I remember The Watersplash final of 1968 (from tape only of course) and how Don Fox missed the sitter of a conversion to win the cup, and missed..... he slumped to the floor in tears, and was never the same.

Lennox did not look good for that fight. Lennox was huffing and puffing. He knew it, that's why he went for the kill. Anyway, Vitali did not look good either that night. He got beat by a ready to retire, out of shape Lennox Lewis, and looked like a ***** saying he could of continued. It was a humbling experience for him(Vitali) and it seems like it still bothers him 'til this day.

i realize that, but the doctor and the ref would not have stopped the fight if not for the cut over the eye. That's why i only mention the "big one".

Also, I'm not so sure those other cuts even happen without the distraction of the"big one".

Everytime I re-watch the fight I sway back & forth on who I would give the nod to going forward. Both guys were exhausted, but I think that played into Lennox because he had the more experience in big time fights. Vitali did take it absolutely horribly but in part he was just playing to the fans who was giving him a standing ovation, it definitely would have set up a HUGE payday PPV rematch had Lewis not retired and it been promoted correctly.

Sorry, but its an indisputable fact that Lewis was out of shape and was coming off the back of a long period (in the context of his career) of inactivity. Anyone with a working set of eyes could see Lennox was out of shape. That his stamina was shot by about the 3rd of 4th round is another key indicator of this rather obvious fact.

and Vitali took that fight on a two weeks notice, so...

Yeah but Vitali wasn't a fat **** at the end of his career.

I take the point though, thats why both mens stamina gave out so early. Lennox slightly more so.

No offence, but you need to learn how to score a fight if thats the case. Lennox took two rounds at the most.

I agree. My friend thought the same way...he had lennox easily winning that fight before the stoppage. He is a big lennox Lewis fan. I recently showed him that fight again on DVD. He couldn't believe that it was totally different watching it for the 2nd time.

it's a strange phenomenon. Boxing fans usually see what they "want" to see when they have a genuine interest in a certain fighter or a genuine dislike for a certain fighter.

Yeah, and 30 of those 36 wins have been against nobodies.
