don't forget Vitali hasn't fought in years, he is fighting a big guy who was somewhat of a contender at one point. I'm sure he wants to see where he stands before he goes against Oleg-Peter.

 

well, I don't think he's looking for credit in this one, he's trying to shake the rust and see where he's at. He's also gettin up there in age. Look who chris Bryd, Brock,Toney, Rachman and even Valuev have fought or are fighting. Cut him some slack

Although you've always disliked Rahman you seem to have combined your dislike for Ruiz, with your's for him.

Although not a fan of Hasim Rahman, I am able to look at this thing with the proper perspective, unlike some here. You all are looking at things with todays prespective, and things have changed. The key words are "at the time..."

at the time...Vitklit backed out of a Rahman encounter on four different occasions.

at the time...Hasim was 1-1 with Lewis (aka undisputed and no unavenged losses), a fighter who had recently performed major eye surgery on V.KLIT.

at the time...the only other losses on Rahman's record were to Oleg Maskaev (who obviously has his number), who happened to beat Vitali in the amateurs...also a hard hitting Tua in his prime (who also stopped Maskaev)...and the freak Holyfield fight. Losses to Ruiz don't count. A loss to Ruiz does not require an asterisk...the name Ruiz is an asterisk.

at the time...the glass jaw that Zak believes is checked so easily,(and who am I to argue...???) hadn't been exposed yet.

At this time, nobody believes VITkLIT is afraid of Rahman. Still though, the developments that have taken place should not cloud our memories as to how things were back then. :bart

 

McCline is just off a title shot in which he did fairly well until his knee, ankle or whatever went out on him.

All in all Jameel is a real challenge for any guy coming out of being retired for over 2 years. Maybe a spot or 2 below the likes of Brock, who he lost a close one to Brock, after knocking Brock down for the first time in Calvin's career if I remember correctly.



I honestly think it's a pretty bold move on VK's part.

Byrd just fought some guy from North Carolina that I never heard of and I live here!

Brock KO'd a tomato can, then UD'd another one.

Toney should've lost to some tomato can.

Rachman UD'd Taurus Sykes, a punching bag.

Valuev is set to face some rare Canadian tomato named Bergeron or something like that.

 

I don't know...If it was Wlad vs. Lewis, I don't think there would be any speculation about a 7th round (WLAD probably would have gone down already, or TKO). Although again and again he has proved injury prone prior to bouts, VITKLIT at the same time has proved himself to be the more durable KLIT in the ring when he makes it to the bout.

Also...I'd hardly call the list of sacrifices to the boxing gods that W.KLIT is executing, courtesy of the International Bum Federation, the best. :smoke

 

AT THE TIME, all Rahman had done to justify his title shot was to fight a bunch of tomato cans. It wasn't until after the last postponement that he fought his first live body since Holyfield beat him, fringe contender Monte Barrett. You guys make out like this china-chinned loser was some big threat to Vitali, but he was mediocre - everyone KNEW he was mediocre, and so did Vitali and his advisors. The idea that Vitali would retire because he was "scared" of this glass-jawed joke is LUDICROUS.

 

Vitali Klitschko never beat anybody special. He quit on his stool against feather fisted Byrd while Holyfield and Lacy fought on with basically the same injuries. He made Rahman jump through hoops to fight him postponing the fight like 3 times before ducking out the back door with injuries that aren't really ever capable of fully healing.

Then he comes back and has the nerve to wanna fight Oleg Maskaev and just step right in front of Samuel Peter who won not one but TWO eliminators against James Toney. When the WBC comes to their senses and gives Peter his fight Vitali then goes after Jameel McCline. :-(

The guy is more politician than fighter. He should take notes from his brother Wlad, who does seem willing to want to fight the best.
