I decided to refresh my memory on his ability by watching some old videos. Lemme tell you what I see.

Yea I think he has decent movement for a guy his size. He has the ability to land clean even in his herky-jerky movement. And he does have some foot movement which I thought previously I hadn't seen.

Now lemme tell you what I see bad about him.

First of all his power, punch for punch, is not as good as his brother's. Waldo has a better one shot punch. Vitlay from what I can tell takes a lot of clean punches to really hurt a guy. The guys he has KO'd on single shots were very chinny. Guys who if you look back you can see they were KO'd by lesser fighters. Sure he has a high knockout percentage, but that's because A) the quality of his opposition, B) his workrate and C) his size. He's a big guy who throws a lot of punches for his size and keeps a steady pace.

-Now this wouldn't be such a bad thing but considering that he now faces an opponent who requires to be hit with a kitchen sink to hurt, it may be a significant factor.

Secondly, he doesn't depend so much on traditional defense. He does alot of upper body movement and foot movement to avoid punches. He used his knees alot. Both for bending to absorb blows and for stepping out of the way. After an MCL tear, what's the likelyhood that he can continue to use his knees like this?

Third, I noticed that when he gets tired the footwork vanishes and he resembles more of what his brother is like when tired. Laying on the inside and trying to use his height and weight to lean on opponents. But he doesn't tie up like Waldo does. He does try and lock the arm but he doesn't bring his left around the neck. Which leaves him vunerable to being hit with an overhand right in close. He also becomes more and more open for the overhand right as rounds go by. He's in that middle more and more.

I think overall he's not going to be as agile as before. He won't have the freedom that his knee gave him and plus, he's going to be 38 years old probably by the time this fight comes off. The first things to go on a boxer are the legs. I also do not think he is going to be able to significantly hurt Sam. Maybe if he is less agile he may try and sit on his punches more. But that is also going to make him even more stationary and thus a target for Sam's own right hand or left hook. And Vitlay can be hit with that left hook as he depends entirely on upper body movement to avoid them.

Plus I think Sam has shown the ability to pull ahead later on in fights. This is something that may prove to be vital against an aging Vitlay who will most likely slow down considerably as the fight goes on.

Overall I think Vitlay may have some early success but as the rounds go on Sam will find a way to trouble him. His chin is significantly better than everyone Vitlay has faced to date, including Lewis. He has very good recouperative power as well. So even if he does get hurt, it's gonna take a lot to finish him. I also think the improvements in his defense by avoiding the left hook and slipping the right hands will be instrumental gainst Vitlay. Who unlike his brother, because he is so herky jerky, can be countered easier.

I see it breaking down as Vitlay taking the first few rounds with Sam getting closer with his own jab. And as the rounds go on Vitlay's age and legs catch up to him as he either falls apart physically or is relegated to standing toe to toe with Peter. Both guys have terrific chins so a knockout doesn't seem likely. I see Sam landing more frequently with both his jab and right hand as the fight falls into the clinches. Kinda similar to the McCline fight but barring a lotto punch from Vitlay, he won't have Sam as drained as McCline did via knockdowns.

I'll say Sam Peter sweeps the second half of the fight and retains his title by UD or possibly SD, depending on how much Vitlay has left.

Training Camp KO Vitali in week 2-3 depends on how hard he goes which probablly isnt hard. I imagine Vitalis training camp now consist of 1 mile running 3 days a week on the treadmill for his bad knee,4 rounds of punching the Heavybag with his palms like hes always done instead of throwing a real punch and then he finishes his hard day posing for magazines behind his brother naked.

With prime Vitali, i wouldn't give Sam till the end of the second round.

But we haven't seen Vitali in nearly four years. For all we know he could be shot. At a minimum, he'll have ring-rust.

That said, if he makes it through training camp (and he should be allowed a maximum of one brief postponement of less than a month, then on to other contenders for Sam), I would guess he KOs Sam between 7 and 9.

    Thanks for the excellent analysis!

FMPOV Vitali is crazy to step into the ring with a dangerous man like Peter without a tune-up fight!

But 38 is not old for a HW. VK is a smart guy, has Master Sdunek as trainer. If he decides to step into the ring he will be in shape for 12 rounds of war.

My prediction: Vitali wins by TKO in 10

Don't be surprised if peter stops him.Sam will have gotten his confidence back after battering maskaev in 6 rounds.4 years is a very long time out of the ring for a fighter in his late thirties.

I love the fact that Vitali, when he gets hit, seems to get fired up, and really goes after his opponent, then. No cautious approach from this guy. That's what'll make the Peter fight so dramatic and exciting.........

I think if Peter lands on Vitali, it'll only **** him off..........LOL

It'll take Sam 5 or 6 rounds to become sufficiently tired and the Big Klit will knock him into next week.

If Sam Peter takes a leaf out of Lennox Lewis's book, a cut eye should stop the fight early on.

**** dude, it's hard enough believing that Vitali will make it to the ring. Winning is a whole different issue.
With that said, I hope Vitali can pull off a shocker by showing up and winning.

Rocky Barnone, pronounced "Barnownie" , fought in the "Two Ton Tony Galento" era. He defeated "Two Ton" when 300 lb.Galento:admin showed up for their fight.

Amazing. I remember so many guys saying "Wlad is going to get KO'd.....Wlad is done, Peter will kill him"....now its nothing but excuses as to why Peter lost EXCEPT THE TRUTH.....

Peter is overrated and Wlad exposed his limited boxing ability. Dont care that Sam was 22......he is now 25-26 and I still dont think Pater can beat Wlad. Wlad has improved greatly and his confidence is sky high.....

Peter has not improved very much IMO....at least not enough to beat Wlad
