Sour grapes from the Soviets invading Finland aside, if men like Korolev (30's), Vysotsky and Gortskov (60's and 70's) had been able to fight pro they may have very well altered the heavyweight landscape.

This is a stupid fight. Vitali is so clearly a class above the unproven Johnson. Johnson's best weapon, his only weapon really, is his jab, and that jab will do nothing versus Vitali. Vitali by TKO again.

You confirmed exactly what I was responding too- when Motorhead stated that if eastern block heavies were allowed to compete the 70's would gave been different. Well, if the great Soviet amatuer program were not even in full swing unitl the mid 70's, then, like I said, it is doubtful that there were that many guys who might have made a difference.

Like I said- I like the East Euros. I don't really have a dog in the fight- I am a patriotic American and wish that we were gerating a few more good fighters, but I find the Former soviet block fighters to be well trained, professional, and ususally gentlmany. They are a credit to boxing, and helping to keep it alive. I just want to know specifically who these guys are that supposedly would have beaten Ali and Frazier.

Let's see what happens with Golota-Adamek first, but I agree with Rahman and Toney. Both guys have been in deep waters against fair opponents and were unable to show that they've got anything left.

Spaceboy became a joke in the moment he didn't say that Toney would be a better NAME to fight than Johnson, but claimed that Klitschko is "running" from those washed up hasbeens who became gatekeepers five years ago.

You are a heter Johnson is nothing special but is more of a tread than a lot of your picks, Toney, Rahman, Maskaev do not stand a chance against Klitsko even i would put Chambers in there.

Good Lord, seriously??? I did not answer your question properly.

I will make another attempt. Hopefully I can be more percise.

First off your are correct that I confirmed a concern of yours by stating that the Soviets system was in full swing until mid 70's. Regardless; There were still some strong heavyweights that would have made an IMPACT if allowed to compete. My original post covered this and I have no intention of repeating myself.

Soviets also had strong fighters before that time. Korolev already being mentioned. In fact: Attempts were made for Joe Louis to face him while Louis was champion.

You seem like a well spoken, intelligent man and it is not my intention to sound condesending(sp) but you may have answered your own question as to why the Soviets would have been competitive when you referred to them as "well trained" and "professional". It is really that simple.

Sorry if I cannot provide a list of credentialed names of the top of my head other than Koroley, Vysotsky and Zaev, a couple others were mentioned earlier in this thread. IMO this is not really the way to look at the situation.

It would only have taken a few Soviets fighters here and there to change the Western professional fight landscape. That is essentially the case today. A much smaller percentage of Eastern European fighters even get an opportunity to fight professionally. If not for the growth of German promotional companies many Eastern European boxers would not even be afforded an opportunity.

In conclusion: I am only claiming that the Soviets would have been COMPETITIVE. It only stands to reason. Any sport the Soviet government allocated time and resources towards wound up being competitive, if not dominant on a World stage.
