I remember this fight was nearly made in 2005, when Vitali was the man at the division. There were many Toney fans and a lot of people thought that Toney, who had just beat Ruiz, would defeat Vitali. The obvious truth is that Vitali, before or today, would destroy the fat man.
I give Toney a lot of props, but I see Vitali giving him way too much to worry about on fight night. Would be a spectacular fight while it lasted though
IMO Toney is a top 10 guys since 1990 and an ATG---one of the most skilled fighters ever.....but at any time and anyplace VK beats him into next week---James is about 5'9" with not great power at HW--- all the skill in the world won't save you against a guy who is 6'7" hits like a mule and has knocked out all but 1 of his oppenents and whose only 2 losses were fights he was winning before injury----unless VK blows out his acl (and James might be skilled enough to bait/feint him into it )---he KOS Toney inside of 10rounds
Toney was also slated to fight Jameel McCline around that time. The bout never came off though because Toney ruptured his achilles. Would have been a very interesting bout nonetheless.
I think James would be competitive for about 5 rounds with his movement but after Vitalis size and punches start wearing on him i think hed be TKO'd in the 8th or 9th....He would make it that far on skill.
I don't think Vitali would stop a 'prime' (HW) Toney. Toney would make Vitali miss with a lot of his shots. A guess Vitali would win a 116:112 or 117:111 decision. Today's version of Toney wouldn't see the final bell, though. I think the fight would be easier for Wlad than for Vitali. No way Toney could avoid that jab.
I know that Toney is a great boxer for his height but he would get whooped by Vitali. He wouldn't be able to get inside on Vitali. Vitali hits hard and has a granite chin, so there's no way Toney would ever be able to win.
Toney is to small and would get crushed inside of 5 rounds.. The fat **** has no chance against any Klitchko..
