It's possible that part of Lewis's decision to retire was influenced by his tough fight with Vitali and that sticking around would only mean pressure to rematch him.. But the expression " Vitali retired Lewis" should only apply if Lewis was completely wrecked by klit the way that Louis was wrecked by Marciano or Ali by Holmes. Here we have a case where said fighter cut up and BEAT the younger challenger who some claim retired him... Doesn't exactly work..
