I always thought that they could have made a GREAT Rocky IV style build-up for Joe Mesi and Vitali when they were both ranked at the top of the WBC.

Start it out with Joe thinking in his head about Vitali along to the song "There's no easy way out"....

Vitali is doing the Ivan Training, with Fritz yelling at him, his short haired wife by his side...

Joe Mesi with the beard that he sports from time to time doing the Rocky training...

About the same size difference...

Italian American vs Soviet Product....

Joe Mesi was known for being a bit vulnerable, and possibly brain damaged...

Vitali was like a destructive machine....

It would have all came full circle if Mesi had been dropped a few times early, and then came back with a punch out of nowhere opening up Vitali's old cut from the Lewis fight.... "THE RUSSIAN IS CUT"....

I could have taken this promotion to the promise land.

Ha, thanks for the info! Still, it doesn't have the punch of the original Rocky music and is just too soft for this kind of a 'badass' video. They should have picked something more energetic.

Of course this kind of stuff was hot in the 80's but I was never a fan personally. Right now it just sounds silly. (I liked the 1986 Transformers movie when I was a kid though!)

That's Fritz Sdunek, his old trainer. Used to train them both as I recall... He's easily the most recognized trainer out of Germany as far as I know...

Why didnt Vitaly join Steward's team when his younger brother left Sdunek?
Sdunek,the old German vet,is still his trainer.
Loyalty seems to be a very important value for Vitaly!
