His legacy is different than most.

Ring Magazine / Lineal Champion. Future Hall of Fame fighter.

14-2 in world title fights, with the two losses happening due to a cut and a torn shoulder injury while in the lead

Best round won to rounds lost ratio among the history of boxing champions in all weight classes. Never lost more than three consensus rounds in any of his fights. Simply amazing.

    Never floored by a punch

One of the highest KO Ratios among heavyweight champions at 87%, which is remarkable when you consider how long he boxed, and his injuries he had to over come.

An all-time comeback in his mid 30's, 4 years removed from boxing with no warm up fights.

Ducked by Valuev, Haye, and Lewis ( re-match )

PS: I still think he could be one of the champions today.

I'd say, Sanders or Peter. It's not only who he beat but how convincingly he beat them. He lost one round to Sanders and zero to Peter. I believe Sanders was ranked #3 at the time, and Peter #1.

By my count, Vitali beat 12 men who were ranked in the top ten. It could be higher.

One thing is clear, Vitali didn't make his name on washed up past their prime greats in Tyson ( Though he was scheduled to fight him until Danny Williams defeated Tyson ) or Holyfield.

He would have beaten either, perhaps faster than Lennox Lewis who beat the same past their best verisons of Holyfield and Tyson.

Every champ, even the best ones like Ali, Louis or Holmes have easier title defenses than the names you listed.

But those guys also have much more challenging defenses than those listed.

Total non issues that never have and never will be criteria for greatness.

He's eligible for the hall of fame next year. Remember all you clowns said he'd be a first ballot inductee?
    We'll see about that:lol:

Robert Helinus beat Sam Peter easier and more impressively than Wlad did.

Is Robert greater ?? Going by your criteria he is much greater , since Klitch went life and death and looked absolutely appalling against Peter.

Vitali never beat no 12 men who were ranked in the top 10:patsch

You make it blatantly obvious that the man has nothing going for him in an historic sense when you blatantly make up lies and spam meaningless stats over and over.
