Vitali Klitschko vs Donovan ‘Razor’ Ruddock primes

Seems like a bad style matchup for Razor. I think Vitali controls things from range, and has a good enough chin to withstand the rare occasion when Ruddock is able to land the Smash. Ruddock's style in his prime years didn't seem tailored to winning rounds. It was all about landing a bomb and taking the other guy out, which I don't see happening here. Vitali in a wide UD, probably something approaching a shutout. The younger pre-prime Ruddock who boxed more may have done a little better.

 

Think Vitali stops Ruddock early to mid rounds similar to the Lennox V Ruddock fight on Halloween 1992.

Vitali would control the fight quite comfortably IMO. Vitali is a bad match-up for Ruddock - tough, tall, can box well, can hit hard.

Actually see this as an enjoyable war. Tyson 1 Ruddock v peak Vitali is a fun fight where both men are rocked, neither go down, and Vitali wins a competitive 12 round rock em sock em....

 

They were actually supposed to fight at one point I believe then Byrd stepped in as a replacement and the rest is history as we know.

Vitali doesn't have Tyson or Lewis's single punch power he's more of an arm puncher so I see Ruddock giving Vitali a rough fight but all in all I see Vitali winning a decision something along the lines of 116-112 in a entertaining scrap.

 

Absolute rubbish Danny Williams went 8 rounds, Shannon Briggs went 12, an out of shape Corrie Sanders went 8, and couldn't even make an impression on Chris Byrd either who had a weeks notice.

Vitali is nowhere close to Lewis or Tyson's punching power he's an arm puncher and you think he gets rid of a prime Ruddock in a few rounds who fought 8 rounds with a broken jaw against Tyson ?

It’s baffling that you referenced a fight with a serious shoulder injury and another from when he was older and stopped sitting on his punches.

 

A fight where Byrd had a weeks notice ? Byrd was the one at disadvantage fighting against a much bigger opponent in his backyard at late notice.

What opponents did Vitali stop early ? Solis who tore a ligament in his knee ?

Hide a small Heavyweight/Cruiserweight with a glass chin ?

Johnson who was like 40 pounds overweight ? Who didn't even bother to turn up to the fight ?

Vitali was an arm puncher who was often extended into the 2nd half of a fight who wore his opponents down.

Vitali is not a big single puncher despite his stoppage ratio which flatters him.

And there's not a hope in hell he would stop a prime Ruddock in a few rounds either.

 

Stopped reading at “Byrd was the one at disadvantage.” Vitali tore his rotator cuff. Mine still bothers me a decade later.

As for Byrd not being at disadvantage ? So the much smaller man who had no preparation fighting against the much bigger man in his backyard is not a disadvantage ? Ok.

 

Vitali deserves credit for Solis in the same sense that Lewis deserves credit for beating Vitali.

A severe rotator cuff tear is levels worse than a broken hand or a broken rib. The only take homs from that fight were that Byrd wasn’t a complete scrub and Vitali could win rounds with one arm.

 

Whether we disagree or agree on who deserves credit or who doesn't can we atleast agree Vitali doesn't stop Ruddock in a few rounds ?
