Holyfield easily. If he can beat Bowe - better jab and better overall than Vitali, this is not going to be a problem
The fight will definitely last all 12 rounds. Both have granite chins and don't have Tyson's punching power. It won't be easy fight for either of them.
I agree with your observation. But as you know, Holyfield lost 2 out of 3 against Bowe, and barely took the one victory he had in their trilogy.. Evander's heart, conditioning and ability to both box and punch are what makes me lean towards him in the match. But regardless of Holy having the better legacy, Both Klitschkos would be tough fights for the real deal, and I wouldn't be surprised if one of them got a "W" had he met them multiple times.
Bowe was unfocused often, and lost a razor thin match that had a 17 minuted delay. The delay allowed a sometimes gassed Holyfield time to re-fuel. Holy had trouble with bigger skilled guys in Lewis and Bowe ( 1-4 on fair score cards ). Vitali was big, skilled, could jab, and was focused. No man ever won more than three round vs Vitali, meanwhile Holyfield lost more than three to far lesser types, looking just mediocre when facing the likes of Bean or Czyz. Vitali wins a decision.
Everything you say is true, though I wouldn't use the Bean and Czyz fights as examples of a "prime" Holyfield.
Holy often had excuses for his performance. As such his prime is tough to pin down. He didn't dominate older guys in Holmes or Foreman either, and was in big trouble vs Bert Cooper. Holy received some home town cooking as the ref was slow to start the count in the Cooper match.
Vitali rarely drops rounds, and Holyfield doesn't have enough to convince me he'd get the job done, so I pick Vitali by decision. @Mendoza Holyfield arguably deserved to beat Valuev too
Bert Cooper only had a brief moment of success, and Evander was never seriously down. He was wobbled, grabbed the ropes and took an eight count if I recall. Bert was in uncharacteristically good form that night and was also a last minute replacement which can throw anyone off their game. Holmes and Foreman were well prepared for their meetings with Evander as well, and Holy won about 90% of the rounds in those fights. There is no way however, that he was anywhere near his best against Czyz or Bean from 95-97 or whenever those fights were.
I had it 7-5 for Holy over Valuev. Vitali maybe loses one round to Valuev. Holyfield has his hands full with John Ruiz! If you add up the score cards for the 36 forgetful rounds, its about even between the two. Yuck. And let's not forget he was schooled by Moorer right after his upset win over Bowe...so that has to be his prime.
How much time elapsed from the time the ropes prevented a knock down to the actual count? More than 10 seconds? If so, its home town cooking.
Nope.. He was never truly down, though it was ruled as such.. The incident occured at 1:06 and was over, with the action resuming at 1:15. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10RDiJWmxcE
