Plodder is the wrong word but he had to be in perfect position to throw his favorite punch which meant much jostling about, retreating and resetting.
Very true and Patterson certainly took advantage of that in their second fight. Thought you meant he fought as if he had his feet on cement like a George Chuvalo.
true, and i brought up ingo because patterson showed he could close the distance on a larger fighter quickly, one who isn't the most nimble. you're right, vitali is more mobile and significantly larger: but pattersons speed and signature punch lead me to believe he could at least land it. since he never fought anyone NEAR vitali's size it's a guess but that ****er was spring loaded and vitali is no ali. i think floyd could set a trap and vitali could walk right in. he's likely not gonna get a knockout and klitschko will re adjust and keep the distance at his comfort level from then on but i see early success for the rabbit
So why does Michael Spinks, Evander Holyfield, Roy Jones get to bulk up 20 + pounds with advanced weight regimens, modern supplements, and so forth..while patterson does not? Let Patterson take advantage of modern benefits the way these fighters did, and come into the ring a solid 15-20lb heavier. Vitali took advantage of this. He even tested positive for steroids which banned him from 1996 olympic games! you think vitali would be as big as he is without modern benefits/supplements? let's see how vitali does with patterson when he gets those advantages too. Add on a little bit of size for patterson, I think he schools vitali. Patterson was leagues above vitali in terms of skill, speed, technique. it's not even close. Patterson has the ability to make Vitali look very amatuerish. 6'0 blown up lightheavyweight Chris Byrd was able to land sharp punches on Vitali. Patterson is levels above Bryd. Patterson 12 Unanimous Vitali
Another 20 lbs still only makes him 210. As an amateur Vitali was given drugs for an injury by a doctor who wasn't a sports specialist, and one of the many banned substances happened to be in it. He paid the price for not using a sports specialist Yes, I do think Vitali would be as big as he is without steroids. 250lbs is not particularly heavy for a 6'7 boxer. Dimitrenko is also 6'7 and about 250, has he also taken steroids?
That's about the size of it as I see it. Of course steroid cheat VITLAY would beat the 1960 version of Patterson, but give Patterson those same advantages and the fight isn't even close. Ali always said that Patterson was the most skilled fighter he fought, and given the fact that VITLAY doesn't have one punch KO power this one is easy to pick....Patterson by UD or late quittage by VITLAY.
FW, How come vitali getting banned from the olympics for steroid use, isn't more talked about? That's a big deal. You can't just sweep that under the rug.
It's never been swept under the rug, just plenty of claims that the illegal substance was there "to treat an injury" and "why blame VITLAY for what the DOCTOR prescribed?" "DOCTOR" is a very important word here, because in the next breath those same Klit-ites will be telling you that VITLAYS so-called "ring intelligence" stems from him being a "DOCTOR" :rofl You'll also hear the same rabid Klit-ites blaming the "DOCTOR" for the Lewis stoppage by the way. I guess there's "DOCTORS" out there and other kinds of "DOCTORS" if you get my drift.
I don't think anyone is claiming Vitali is a medical doctor, he has a PhD in sports science which gives him the title 'doctor'. It doesn't mean he treats himself when he's injured, or anyone else for that matter. He would, however, treat Floyd Patterson with a barrage of punches and a stoppage loss
This is called a fantasy matchup isn't it? So this IS a fantasy version. it only makes things fair if Patterson is allowed the same benefits Vitali had. pummeled how? Floyd's skill is far and away levels above vitali. His speed his so far above vitali's. His combinations are too fast and sharp for vitali to defend against. His technique is much better. Vitali will be the one who gets schooled in the art of boxing
Even though Suzie and Fighting Weight are being hilariously ridiculous in their logic due to bias, in this one thread...I don't care. They're giving my guy a chance. It's not a sensible chance but I'm touched enough to ignore their being clearly also touched, though in a very different way.
How do you know what Patterson would look like at 210-215 pounds? No one knows how he would handle an additional 20-30 pounds (on top of what he already bulked up just to get near 190). Besides which, it still wouldn't make his chin any less weak. What is there to indicate that Patterson could do that against a fighter 7 inches taller and 50 pounds heavier than himself? You've been adamant in the past that Patterson was guilty of avoiding big men like Cleveland Williams and Nino Valdes and considered them genuine threats to his title; yet now you claim he has a clear stylistic advantage against Vitali? :huh
My2Sense, 1. Thank you for banning me for posting comments on your nino valdes-hurricane jackson video on youtube. I appreciate it. The one you should be banning is Pugcat, the biggest youtube troll of all time. He has his own group the Anti Marcianos. 2. It doesn't matter what patterson would look like at 210-215lb. Fact of the matter is that is what he will come in the ring at against Vitali. That's what all these cruiserweights who bulk up are coming in at dating back to 1985. 3. Yes. Patterson did avoid Valdes, Wiliams, Folley, and Machen. Just because he avoided them, does not beat he wouldn't beat them does it? No, I never claimed he had a clear stylistic advantage over Vitali. All I said is from the films I have watched, I thought floyd has 5x the skillset vitali has, much faster hands, and superior technique. 4. Patterson may have a "suspect" chin according to you, but it took the best one punch knockout artists of the era to put him away. Patterson knew how to get up. Vitali was not a one punch knockout artist. he is a volume puncher who throws arm punches. I don't think Vitali is that early exposive finisher that can get floyd outta there. This allows floyd a much better chance. What is there to indicate Patterson can do something against a fighter that tall? Well his best punch is a leaping left hook thats fast as lightning, and sneaky as a mongoose. Vitali will not be able to defend against it, and it can reach vitali.
Huh? I never banned anyone from posting on my videos, nor do I even remember reading (or caring about) the comments under that video. How does it not matter what a fighter's form will be when we're talking about how he will perform in a fight? No, but you've said Williams or Valdes might've beaten him had they got their chance. But he wasn't fighting anyone 250-plus pounds, and even contenders around 210-220 pounds he stayed away from as best he could. But he has shown he can blow guys out if they have suspect chins, ie: Herbie Hide and Kirk Johnson. Again, how do you know how fast/sneaky his left hook would still be with an added 20 pounds on him? Again, there's nothing to prove either of these points true. We don't know if Patterson (with or without an extra 20 pounds) can land leaping left hooks on a 6'7" 250-pound fighter who knows how to use his height, and we don't know that Vitali can't defend against hooks from a 6' foot, bulked up cruiser with a peek-a-boo style.
