Prime undefeated Tua > Past prime Sam Peter who couldn't beat 6 foot featherfist Chambers in his next fight

Prime undefeated Byrd > 10 years past prime Corrie Sanders who was "blubberly" and breathing heavily out his mouth after 4 rounds.

The facts speak for themselves. As does your quit job.

Calling Vitali a junk fighter has got to be up among the worst takes I’ve seen on this forum.

Make a poll asking people if they think Peter was "on the slide" or if Sanders was "totally shot" just before Vitali fought them.

Then we'll see whose laughing. I dare you.

If you want a poll then go make one.

I've laid out the facts and you have no rebuttal. Absolutely none.
You were losing the argument before quitting - a double whammy of failure. lmao

I’ll admit that was hyperbolic. I will amend it to immensely, inconceivably over-rated & unimpressive. He was competent, though with little room to spare…I can give him nothing more.

Overrated - we can agree on that. Outside of Sanders and an ageing Lewis, he didn’t have any stand out performances and quit against Byrd. I think when it comes to h2h people vastly overestimate him and I think a lot of smaller skilled guys like Holmes, Ali, and Usyk would have given him fits.

Sure Vitali absolutely should be criticized for losing to Byrd. And I don't know if he should even be favored in this matchup. I just think his resume is probably not indictive of how good he is.

Peter's only wins of note are a faded Toney and a shot Maskaev. I don't think that can measure up to Tua's younger Maskaev, Rahman, and Oquendo. Or Byrd's Vitali, Tua, Oquendo, McCline, old Holyfield. Hide doesn't really have anything in the way of good wins. Sanders has a good win over Wlad but absolutely nothing else of consequence and was past his prime, overweight, with poor stamina.

Vitali's problem is that the contenders he was facing were not very good even by the standards of their era. I don't think he ever beat anyone better than a prime Chisora.

The top H2H guys from that era aside from Wlad himself would be in my view
    Vitali
    Fury
    Povetkin
    Wilder
    Ortiz
    Pulev
    Haye.

Vitali didn't face any of them.

I wouldn't really count Wilder and Fury as being part of his era. The guy was already 40 by the time they became contenders and he had many health issues.

Regardless, you are actually correct that Vitali's resume is poor even by his own era's standards. It's also true he somehow failed to face several of the best opponents of that era. Haye, Povetkin, Pulev, Chambers, Byrd, and of course his brother Wladmir are notably missing from Vitali's record. Even beating 2-3 of them would boost a lot of people's h2h evaluation of Vitali, and beating all those guys would be amazing.

The fact he lost to Byrd, refused to fight his brother, and completely missed the rest is hard to forgive. As you said, a prime Chisora might be his best win. After that, you don't have much else other than an older Sanders, Peter, and Arreola. His resume looks below average after that and his "dominance" has much to do with the fact he's a giant with tremendous strength and boxing ability taking on sub par opponents. It makes it very hard to rate Vitali because he's obviously not a chump, and could give most guys hell prime for prime, but we just don't know for sure how good he was. Missing literally 5-7 of the best names of your era certainly doesn't help.

In terms of achievements Vitali is very low on the list I’d say between 15-20 on the ATG scale

However H2H you would still have to favour him over most fighters aside from maybe the top 5 simply due to his size, style, iron chin, power and will to win a real anomaly similar to Bowe we just never saw how great either could be by fighting a variety of great opponents
