Young didn’t fight and lose to Ocasio “right after” beating Foreman. That was several fights later. Young become despondent after the SD loss to Norton prior to facing Ocasio.

Jimmy weighed 220 lbs for Ocasio vs a svelte 213 lbs for both Foreman and Norton.

Everyone knows a properly committed Young ran extremely hot for a time, albeit for a limited period, hanging with and defeating the best.

Foreman was deliberately weight drained. Toward the later stages of his first career, George was hitting a more natural 228 lb - 229 lb. Compare Vitali’s weight at the same age - woo hoo, a whopping 10 lbs heavier.

You’re also ignoring the facts that Foreman’s power and strength well transcended his already large size - P4P stronger and more powerful than Vitali.

For his rematch with Patterson, a fully matured Ali outweighed Floyd by 30 lbs. Don’t cite just the ONE fight when Ali was just 23 yo just to suit your self.

You either don’t know all this or you are pretending to be ignorant of these facts.

Either way, it’s an indictment on you.

A commendable amendment to all the rubbish, but I get the feeling you’re wasting your time.

    Another fine post.

On top of this "end of the road LHW" Peralta, (weighing in at 196 incidentally) was actually a top 10 heavyweight while Foreman, who'd only fought professionally 15 times and just turned 21, wasn't. Quite a good win for the young inexperienced heavyweight going against the cagey seasoned campaigner in the form of his life.

"end of the road LHW" Peralta was also coming off a draw with the much higher ranked Bonavena.
"end of the road LHW" Peralta hadn't been beaten in over 30 fights prior to Foreman besting him.

We should all be that good at "the end of the road"

    Some tidbits -

Peralta, the former South American champion, said: He was tougher than Bonavena [Oscar].

The Argentine, giving away 16 pounds and three inches in reach, could not get under Foreman's stinging jabs.Foreman, who has learned to shorten his punches, surprised the fans with his strength and his straight right leads.

Peralta being stopped by Foreman was a rare, rare occurrence in Peralta’s career too, from memory.

Thanks JT. Not that mine was - but yours IS a TOP post.

You’ve absolutely put paid to the earlier rubbish written re Peralta.

In fact, you’ve fast tracked the purveyor of poppycock to the end of his OWN road.

    :lol::lol::lol:

Him saying Sanders would blow Norton out, is a virtual guarantee Norton wins this match up.

1991 Mike Tyson vs 1991 Evander Holyfield

I've done prime Mike from the 80's

    Evander Holyfield vs Mike Tyson

Even though this fight happened twice already with Holyfield winning both contests Mike was clearly not at his best the stint in prison having affected his skills. After his incarceration Tyson did put together four wins but all opponents were hand picked to make Mike look as good as possible. Looking back you can clearly see the decline so for this fight it would be unfair to use the results from their two fights. This version of Kid Dynamite is the ferocious knockout artist from the mid 80’s who tore up bigger and more experienced foes with ease.

Physically Holyfield is the bigger man with 4 inches in height, six inches in reach and in terms of weight both are even at a trim and ready 218 lbs. Evander has the heart, stamina and ring IQ while Iron Mike clearly hits harder, is faster and both are about equal when it comes to chin. A shame the fight never happened in 1991 as planned but to be honest even then Mike wasn’t the same fighter and most likely would have lost. Too much partying and neglecting training was starting to have a clear effect on his boxing and coming up against a young, hungry and focused Real Deal would have been bad news for Tyson. So here we have Mike from 1987 against Holyfield from 1992 a perfectly balanced fight between two gladiators at the peak of their powers.

Once the bell goes how do things play out, Tyson would come out faster throwing all manner of punches looking to take out his adversary early. Holyfield would be fully prepared for the onslaught and ride out a couple of rough rounds taking some punishment. Once into the third Holyfield starts putting his shots together and with his subtle but very effective use of his head would start bullying Tyson. The Real Deal had a tendency to trade a little too often and would get caught with some big shots from Mike but his tough chin and unreal heart would carry him through any rough patches.

By the mid rounds Holyfield has fully taken over the fight with an out of sorts Mike getting more desperate by the minute. Evander keeps the jab in his foe’s face and at least once per round he manoeuvres his head into position to butt Mike and frustrate him further. By round ten Tyson is cut over both eyes ruled as a result of accidental clashes of the head – something hotly contested by Mike’s corner. Evander comes out piling on the pressure and by the end of the round senses the end is near. In round 11 Mike goes for broke swinging wildly however Evander is ready and as soon as he spots an opening throws a barrage of his own hard punches that knocks Mike down. He struggles to his feet but another assault and the ref waves it off. Some fighters just have another’s number and sadly Holyfield is Tyson’s bogeyman.

Verdict – TKO win to Holyfield round 11

In this matchup, I agree Foreman would need to stop him within 5-6 rounds. Vitali's stamina, pace, and high volume would be problematic down the stretch.

The biggest issue for Vitali is he probably can't get around Foreman's heavy jab and body shots with his robotic upright style.

As for size, Foreman had been draining and dehydrated himself in the 70's and walked around at 230+. At most there would be maybe an 8-10 pound difference if Foreman fought in the 90's without draining. In terms of measurements, Foreman was bigger in some areas: thigh, fist, wrist, reach. Vitali was marginally the larger man in the chest and height, but he wouldn't be dwarfing anyone.

The Shavers and Cooney blowouts overwhelmingly suggest Norton just didn't deal well with big hitters regardless of pedigree/greatness/accomplishments. Given Nortons record against punchers how is this an impressive win for Foreman that establishes him as some H2H beast? Do Shavers and Cooney beat Vitali too? A lot of Foreman's rep is based on beating Frazier with the rest of his resume pretty underwhelming for a guy held so high in H2H matchups. In fairness, Vitali doesn't have a deep resume himself.
