I think Vitali engages with Shavers in a wild first 1-2 rounds then Shavers either rocks Vitali or drops him early with a flash knockdown. Vitali recovers, fights a bit more cautiously at mid range, and starts to overwhelm the Acorn due to his high volume and landing 2-3 shots for every 1 wild bomb Shavers attempts. Eventually Shavers goes in his shell getting pounded on similar to the Arreola or Briggs fights. Vitali manages to rattle Shavers jaw with a big right hand, flooring him in the 5th. Shavers is on unsteady legs turtling up, then attempts one big hail Mary left hook stunning Vitali, but it's not enough. Vitali sees Shavers is gassed and goes in for the kill unleashing a barrage before Shavers goes to a knee and the ref immediately waves it off.

As for Cooney, I think that's close to a 50/50 fight...maybe 55:45 slightly for Vitali. Cooney would be almost the same height, has a better jab, hits harder, would be digging into the body, and pressuring Vitali on the inside, a range where Vitali would be clueless. Cooney could pull an upset if he's bringing his A game.

Why are you fixating on a Norton who was past it and almost 36 against Shavers and about to turn 38 against Cooney? The peak Version that Foreman fought was some 5 and 7 years prior to these fights. Blind Freddy knows Norton was shot by Cooney and past it by Shavers.

Are you somehow envisioning that version against Sanders? Pretty poor.

One hardly has to be a "H2H beast" to beat Corrie.

You’d be hard pressed to call it a shallow résumé, however. Especially allowing for his second career & the age & weight he was fighting at. Foreman perhaps isn’t getting enough credit for his pre-Frazier run of 37-0. He had beaten pretty solid opposition by the gold standards of the 70’s division & done away with virtually all opposition easily.

The post even got likes despite utilising a shot Norton  I love the posts where if you take out this win and that win the resume isn't that great blah blah blah. It's not just beating guys like Frazier and Norton it's the way he beat them. An unbeaten reigning ATG (who is in virtually everyone's top 10) was up and down like a yoyo and treated like a C level clubfighter. How many Heavyweight ATG's have decimated a reigning ATG champion in such ridiculous fashion? But, but, but Joe was blind in one eye and couldn't see out the other and he sang 7 tunes before the fight. And that damn Ali, he beat the crap out of him in the FOTC and he was never any good again. Ali, the loser of the fight did ok of course.

Are you having a laugh mate? Norton was considerably past his prime by the time he lost so Shavers and flat out shot against Cooney.

Kamikaze always comes out of the woodwork whenever Foreman's name is even remotely mentioned, and without fail always bring up Young and Ocacio. And I thought noneck was bad.

My God you people need a life.

Funny that no one has mentioned Foreman’s performance against a prime Holyfield or win over Moorer this not only proves his pedigree and greatness both of these fights are better than anything Vitali did

I cannot believe the respect Klitschko gets in some circles. An absolute clod of a fighter, talentless & with zero big kills on his CV. His brother always had all the talent in the family.

Foreman's actually becoming a little underrated around here imho.

Cooney was a low-skill plodder with a big punch and a glass chin. Briggs was actually once the lineal heavyweight champion of the world which, as everybody on classic keeps reminding us, is a big deal. Vitali is levels above him.

I agree Vitali is better than Cooney but he isn't good enough to beat Foreman

You’d seriously have to be as dumb as **** to give Vitali even a remote chance against Foreman.

Hilarious. Briggs had his nose broken and needed a blatant robbery to "beat" even a geriatric Foreman. But a prime Foreman does about as well as Briggs did against Vitali.
