In 1926 Johnson retired in his corner after the 7th round he had been floored in that round, he was 48 years old. In 1928 he retired in a fight with a broken hand, he was 50 years old.
Your statement: "JJ extremely overatted won championship from 160 pound Ketchel and lost to guys his own size which was around 200 pounds.Very off balance forward puncher,as can be seen with him falling all over the place even through the ropes from just basic punches he throws ." Its confirmed, you don't know jack sh*t.:-( Hide is the best ko on Vitalis' resume.

Its even better than that. Ketchel who was about as skilled as your garden variety tough man landed a good one in round seven. It left a visible mark on Johnson's face. After the fight where Johnson said his jaw was never so sore after a fight! A 156 pound man did this. Could you imagine what his reaction would be if Vitali hit him?
Very delusional posters on this site, simply ..they do not know what they are talking about,Vitali would murder JJ.
The fact that such threads exist show some of the delusion that persists among boxing fans when it comes to old timers.
Uncletermite, If your going to beat a much bigger man the old timer is going to need a lot of power, and durability for openers. Johnson was not a KO type of puncher. Johnson was KO'd cold by Joe Choynski, who was likely under 170 pounds. He was floored by a 156 pound Ketchel, and drew with Jack O'Brien who was 162.5 pounds in a six round match. Here's the shocker, some primary sources felt O'Brien was the better. To cap it off Jack Johnson drew in a title fight to Jim Battling Johnson, who finished with a record of 24-16-7! Jack Johnson is the fools gold currency for some here. His record does not hold up vs. smaller men that would never even attempt to fight Vitali.
Which is why I have him in my top 3 most overatted boxers of all time. The notion he defeats Vitali is not logical.
Adam states that Johnson did not quit against Klondike do you want to pm him to confirm that? F*ck me ,the hate just keeps comingatsch
You're the knob that said Johnson took the title off of a 160lbs Ketchel? Can you think of one reason why anyone would give you the credibility of a reta*ded baboon?atsch
Source that Ketchel was 156lbs? You have a new play mate in Uncletermite he is as stupid and ignorant as yourself. I'm sure you will make a great double act.:good
There are many over rated boxers, but Johnson is on the top of my list as well. As champion he had too many struggles and flat out used the color line to avoid the best out there in Langford, Jeanette and McVey. Instead he drew with O'Brien ( 162.5 pounds ), got knocked down by a 156 pound man ( Ketchel ), and drew with a journeyman in Battling Johnson. Could you imagine is Wlad struggled like this?! Johnson was knocked silly vs GunBoat smith in a 1909 ex match. Smith by the way had beaten many of Johnson's title opponent but never got a title shot himself. Hmmmm... Mix in an ugly DQ vs. 5'9" tall Flynn who was Ko'd many times before, a fight where he could not finish Ross who had lost last five of his last seven, and beating a past champion ( Jeffries ) who had been in the ring six years, and you get the sum of his activity. Well--He beat Moran, but we know how his fight with Willard ended up. Willard was the best title oppoent Johnson fought.
Are you on your meds? This was mentioned before here. PS: Sometimes I just don't have time to finish your clown act, so I'm choosing to archive some stuff for the purpose of time. In addition Ketchel wore heeled boots to make himself look taller for the photos
