Vitali is talking about Valuev and Lewis this time... but he won't just let the title go off...

Good news is Arena and K2 worked together last weekend (Odlanier Solis won an intercontinental title on the show) so IMO they can avoid the purse bid. Vitali is not getting any younger, should get back to the ring ASAP (after a deserving rest of a few weeks).

I believe the 90 days is for getting an agreement in place, otherwise it goes to purse bid.

Gomez is underrated, I'd pick him to beat guys like Peter and Valuev, he should make a competitive fight against Vitali, but should come up short on this one.

He wasn't fat for the Virchis fight, he clearly put on muscle mass and was in great shape, though he also looked a little slower.

^That's good, because 90 days after a fight is a rough schedule.

Vitali will destroy this guy. Jeez, Yanqui Diaz took him out in like a round.

He was very slow against Virchis.Well, still to speedy for the extremely slow and limited Virchis who would have had a better chance against a mobile target like Sam Peter.Nevertheless,he now looks like a fat whale.
His oustanding skills and his impressive speed have always been Gomez' best weapons. One of these weapons has lost its sharpness which doesnt bode well for his upcomming fight with Vitaly.
Besides Vitaly stated that Gomez' style suits him well and that he had knocked him down in a sparring session.Vitaly seems to be quite optimistic to beat the living **** out of Gomez.Furthermore they dont seem to like each other very much.I guess that they had some heated sparring sessions back then when both fought for the same stable in Germany.
Moreover Gomez is a big mouth, and we all know that Vitaly take no mercy on opponents who try to belittle him or call him names.

Gomez is a huge waste of talent. He should easily have been able to beat former beltholders like Ruiz, Brewster or even Byrd back in the day if he´d have kept in shape. Now he´d have to fight the Klitschkos or Valuev, who all dwarf him, to get a belt. And he´s deteriorated a lot from what I´ve heard. I´d still probably pick him against Valuev, but he won´t get that fight.

Yep! Your are absolutely right in saying that Gomez is a huge waste of talent.
He could have achieved so much if he were not that bloody lazy and more dedicateted to his choosen profesion.
Gomez is one of the most naturally talent heavies out there, but the Cuban has wasted his God given talent by running into trouble outside the gym, feasting at McDonalds, partyhing, playing around with women, and avoiding to attend a gym regularly.
What a shame and what a waste of talent he is!

It looks like Vitali either has to agree on a fight with Gomez or get stripped of his title.

I see this one going to a purse bid as it'd guarantee the biggest possible share for Vitali, and K2 and RTL has enough money to win the bid.

I hope this fight comes off, it's really a good one... and the winner could face Valuev...

This fight would not even be close. Vitali would have an excellent chance of stopping Gomez early. Gomez has problems with taller fighters (ie Yanqui Diaz) and not only is Vitali a tall fighter but he uses every inch of his height to his advantage.

    Vitali tko3 Gomez

I wonder if VK has said anything regarding the news that Gomez is a mandatory fight for him if he wants to keep his title.

He may say to heck with it, and retire again, if he can't get Lewis or a unificatoin with Valuev. But I doubt it. I certainly hope he stays at it and gets Gomez outta the way.

I also agree that Gomez is about as good an opponent as anyone else out there.

there is too much money for Vitali to make on the table for him to retire. He should just blast through Gomez and get that Valuev fight. A Valuev fight would most likely be an 8 figure pay day for Vitali.

can't really put alot of faith in a guy who at 35 has more questions and what-if's about his career, ability and determination then answers.

golata wanted to win too... you know?

btw, i have to agree about Vitali looking stiff in the Peter fight. his legs looked wooden, no spring, no bend, as if the leg and back injuries have left a lasting mark. at first i thought it was just the ring rust, but he never shook it as the fight went on. had Peter been more mobile and aggressive i think he could have given Vitali more of a fight. If Gomez doesn't go down early he will give Vitali problems.. win? no. Vitali is too tough, too determined, too strong and too accurate.
