The Yanqui Diaz fight isn't a great measure of Gomez's chin, IMO. It was a fight he took on short notice with barely training against an old friend who was trying to start his career. You do the math. Vladimir Virchis landed some shots square on Gomez that didn't hurt him, and while Virchis isn't a great boxer and is slow, he hits every bit as hard as Vitali.
The Klitschkos have wanted to do this for a long time.... they want as many people as possible to see fights... thats why they dont do PPV. Dont be surprised to see a Wlad fight on ESPN as well. I think its great and ESPN has really stepped up... not as much as what HBO pays but not bad... I hope other fighters take their lead and put more fights on ESPN as well.... reminds me when I was a kid and would see fights on "ABC Wide World of Sports":good
No, but he could still bang pretty hard, his KO ratio reflects that. I think we all remember what Vitali did to a very good boxer in IMO. I see the fight going one of two ways, early knockout for Vitali or a championship round knockout for Vitali. Klitschko is just too big for Gomez, all Vitali is going to do is one-two him to death, Gomez play defense all he wants, but Vitali will get some of his punches in and that will be enough to hurt and probably knockout Gomez.
Vitali Klitschko knows how important this fight is. It is on ESPN with millions of viewers. He is going to do what he always does grind'em down and then knock them out.
I recall that, too. I remember seeing Ali get beaten by Spinks on ABC..... Those days are long gone, and its good to see fighters who are willing to fight for less money in order to get heavyweight boxing seen by more potential fans...... Over the last few years, I think the heavywieght division has been steadily improving, and this heavyweight fight being on ESPN should be seen by an awful lot of general boxing fans.
