prime? im not so sure!!! he had very little experience at the level of lennox lewis. who had he beaten anywhere near that level???? His cut was bad, but respect to him, he was so desperate to continue.
MMMMMMMM:huh:huh I have to agree a bit, it was an lucky night for Lewis thats for sure and he knew it to..hence no re-match we do need to let this rest, we all have our opinions on it, but its not going to change anything, i wish it could but it wont.:blood right after the punch there was a head butt to ( watch it closely) Vitali was kicking his ass at the time of the stoppage 99.9% of who was there or was watching it at the time agrees with that. and spoke about it ..you just get bias or racial fans on esb that will take a win anyway they can and try to rub it in .. but if you look at it un-bias or not racial then you have to come to the fact that Lewis had met his match and was getting his ass kickt and got lucky and one the fight over a cut, but Vitali was deff the better man.
I would say at 32, almost 7 years as a pro with 33 fights under his belt, he was prime. While he had never fought at the level of Lewis before he had proven himself a top contender and if he wasn't ready at that point then he never would be.
Just as an addition, I think Vitali was extremely lucky not to have points deducted for clearly trying to kick Lewis in the head when Lennox went to help him up. Its something that doesn't get mentioned often (although it did crop up in a recent thread). When you're trying to discredit Lewis by saying he "thumbed" VK or "used his dreads" Id ask you to remember that kicking someone in the head is a lot , lot worse!
Prime is not all about age, its the period you were at your best,!!! tysons, was 20. At nearly 40 he kicks heavyweights arses in there 20s and 30s! where was pac-man after 33 fights? in his prime??????
True but he was only active for about 18 months after the Lewis fight and had to retire due to injuries. So clearly the comeback Vitali was not as good as the fully fit Vitali that fought Lewis as he was physically impared, had 4 years of inactivity and was then 37. So if you are saying that Vitali wasn't prime when he fought Lewis then when was his prime, as there was only an 18 month period and 3 fights after Lewis before Vitali was maligned by his injuries. Seems strange that Vitali's prime should only be regarded after he lost to Lewis as I personally didn't see any significant improvement in Vitali after he fought Lewis.
Hide was up on the cards unil something strange happened. Even Vitali admits he did not hit him and has no idea what happened. Hide won the event and VK is too chicken to rematch him.
How the cut came about is what determies the outcome of the fight: From WBC Rules: 13. Accidental Injuries from Head Butts, Elbows, or other Accidental or Illegal Actions (injury). The following description applies to injuries from not only head butts and elbows, but from any other accidental or illegal action as well. a) Unintentional/accidental injury. When a boxer suffers a cut, abrasion, or excessive swelling due to an unintentional/accidental head butt, elbow, etc. If the bout cannot continue: There will not be a point deduction. Technical draw if before the start of the 5th round. Technical decision, as per the scorecards, if after the start of 5th round. If the bout continues: A point will be deducted from the uninjured boxer. This point deduction will compensate the advantages acquired by the uninjured boxer. The referee will have the option to consult with the WBC supervisor to waive the point deduction if the cut is on the hairline upwards. If both boxers are injured, there will not be a point deduction.  If there is an accidental injury and the bout continues and is later stopped after the start of the fifth round due to enlargement of the same cut by legal punch, it will be a technical decision as per the scorecards.  If there is an injury caused by a legal punch and the bout can continue, and is later stopped after the start of the fifth round due to an accidental injury, it will be a technical decision as per the scorecards.  All rounds will be scored even if it is partial round. 14. Intentional Injury. When a boxer suffers a cut, abrasion, or excessive swelling due to an intentional head butt, elbow, etc. If the bout cannot continue: The offending boxer will lose by disqualification. If the bout continues: Two (2) points will be deducted from the offending boxer.  If the offending boxer is injured by his own action he will still be deducted 2 points. If the bout continues, but must later be stopped due to the same injury, it will be a technical decision as per the scorecards. This rule applies even if the injurys severity is increased by legal punches after the initial injury, in the sole discretion of the referee.
