No, it's what the ref rules at the time of the incidence that determines the outcome. The ref ruled it was a legal punch, whether that's true or not doesn't really matter. So suck it up and live with the results. I don't think Lewis should have gotten a draw against Holyfield in their first fight, and no one I know who saw it thinks so either, but **** happens and it is what it is, and so like it or not, that's the official score for that particular fight, just like the official score for this fight is Lewis TKO over Klitschko in the 6th round and ain't nothing ever going to change that. As for your thumb theory, here's a little blurb on a boxing equipment site.. "Most boxing gloves manufactured these days have a thumb attachment feature. This was a very good idea as it prevents a lot of thumb injuries and accidental eye gouges." And the chance that Lewis threw and intentional thumb is absolutely zero. What likely happened is the lace on the glove probably cut Klitschko, but that certainly doesn't explain the other cuts suffered by him, so obviously V.K.'s face simply wasn't up to the task of taking Lewis' punches.
Well I have nothing against V.K. I think he's a pretty good fighter and showed a ton of heart in that fight, but his fans are something else..they're in prolonged denial for whatever reason and the way they whine about the injustice of the outcome, you'd swear they never saw a fight in their lives. Bad decisions and fouls have long been a part of boxing..it's too bad if it determines outcomes, but you can bet everything you own that it'll continue to happen in the future, because it's the nature of the beast. And as far as that goes, this was simply a punch that landed kind of funny, it certainly wasn't a blatant foul.
The 6'5'' Lewis was massively overweight....he was 6lbs over his fighting weight and at 6'5'' that is a game breaker. 6lbs is a ton of weight for a 6'5'' man, no doubt if he had been 3lbs lighter like in the Rahman fight he would have won every round.
The ref was not positioned to see how the cut happened (see the gif/video posted earlier). Without an instant replay, he assumed it was a legal punch. WBC reinstated Vitali as mandatory immediately after the fight and that only happens if the title fight ended in a draw or no-contest. I am not trying to void the record which is impossible and pointless after 8 years. I am just pointing out that TKO6 record is not worth the paper it is printed on. Thumb attachments do not prevent injuries: [yt]ZQTlpLUm1ZQ[/yt]
Is there not a new thread on Lewis-Klitshcko every week? Same arguments, nothing new. I thought Vitali was still winning even the last round, but his eye was opened up quite a bit and he couldn't continue, and Lewis was rightly called the winner. But come on the same thing brought up, no one is convincing anybody of anything.
Steward said that he though Lewis optimum fighting weight was around the mid 240's so Lewis was 10-12lbs above his best weight. While that may not be a huge amount of weight to a normal person to an elite athlete participating in a mainly anaerobic sport, it would definately be detrimental, especially against Vitali who has tremendous conditioning and sets such a high pace. Lewis being overweight suggests his conditioning was not optimal.
Vitali punched Lewis in the face - it caused a huge cut. Lewis was staring to bring it to Vitali, who was a bloody mess. Your guy lost fair and square against an aging, past prime Lewis - no amount of slowed down gifs or rule book quoting is going to change that. You need to deal with it and stop whinng. Haven't you got some Vitali numero uno ATG threads to be humiliating yourself in?
