Oh brother. I can see this thread going until next November.

MARCIANO ADVOCATES - Vitali never defeated an all time great, and if Lewis could force a stoppage so could the rock.

VITALI ADVOCATES - Marciano was too small and couldn't deal with a man of Vitali's complete package of size, strength, chin and boxing ability.

I think that's good enough. No need for 60 pages of debate.

Alright I'll start this one and put my head on the chopping block by picking Vitaly. Not because he's the better fighter but because he's just so much bigger than Rocky. Combine that with decent boxing skills and a pretty good jab that Vitaly knows how to use and I see a decision win for the big boy. After fielding a couple of good shots by Rocky Vitaly goes into self preservation mode and uses his height, reach and jab to good use to avoid any exchanges in the trenches. If Rocky gets too close it's lean and clinch time. Hell Vitaly is 9 inches taller with about a foot in reach and almost 70 lbs on Rocky. That has to count for something. Especially considering that Vitaly is a decent fighter. So I'll go with a safety first Vitaly by decision. Please go easy on me fellas.

    I take Vitaly by Stoppage.

This is were the size difference starts to matter, Marciano was too small and not quick enough to get his man.

I wouldn't count The Rock out but smart money would be on Vitaly.

I would put my money on Marciano.

There comes a point where greatness difference starts to matter.

    That's another school of thought.

I think its pretty safe to say that either way it's certainly going to be an uphill battle.

There's a reason they have weight classes and they are not 60 pounds apart. Marciano is certainly greater but he is so outsized, out-lengthed and outstrengthed here...

    Who cares...

Rocky will always have the better legacy, be known as the better fighter, and be a more likable champion. He won't be known for fighting Briggs, Sosnowski, Gomez, Johnson, and Arreola's of the world. He will be known for taking on the best, and beating the best fighters he faced. In fact, that will be their distinctions as far as legacy will ever go. Vitali lost against the very best he faced while Rocky always won.

though your point is well taken. h2h fights of this nature tend to bring out individuals trying to up a fighter one way or the other. honestly, there's almost no comparison for either to go off of. neither of them fought anyone remotely like the other

    Rocky

In 12 rounds, Rocky has to land one punch that stuns Vitali. And it's all over form there.
