Its not as big of a factor as you make it out to be. Conn was not even close to being a heavyweight, and he almost became champion
i personally see punches in bunches from the rock.i can actually picture the fight with vitali getting stunned with a left hook around round 5 and flying back against the ropes .rocky continues punishing him and a bloodied vitali gets stopped
Yea but the big weight difference is still there Joe came in the fight at 200 lb, and COnn at 169. 31 pound difference. But it worked to Conns advantage, did it not? Plus I found this excerpt, speaking of Louis' weight: In his autobiography, Joe Louis said, "I made a mistake going into that fight. I knew Conn was kinda small and I didn't want them to say in the papers that I beat up on some little guy so the day before the fight I did a little roadwork to break a sweat and drank as little water as possible so I could weigh in under 200 pounds. Chappie was as mad as hell. But Conn was a clever fighter, he was like a mosquito, he'd sting and move.
the best louis weighed 198 pounds against max in the second fight , joe louis would have been better as cruiser today, he would have been too small in the hw. he would have been surprised to see several guys like carnera but with skill.
maybe you are right, maybe every nostalgic is right. and joe louis or marciano would have raped vitali, but i can´t believe it, sorry but if i don´t see it i can´t believe it. my heart want to see rocky and louis winning, but my head say "they would lose". louis was 6´2 he would have more chance than rocky in my opinion
I hear you. Everyone sees things different you know? I'm only 21, so I wasn't around when these fighters were fighting. My strongest support for evidence though is footage, and I deal with cameras and footage everyday, and it goes a long way for me when analyzing old films. For instance im almost positive that the Jeanette Langford film is a bit slow. Even if its off only by one or two percent, its a bit slow. Vitali is a great fighter. Any other top 20 HW would be doing the same thing hes doing, killing the competition. But I think some people feel he is so underrated (which he still is in America) that they will try to "balance" the opinions by saying he would beat all these top 10 legends. His body wasn't made to compete with the likes of Louis, Marciano, Ali, Dempsey. These guys are way too durable, and can move around the ring with ease. Klitschko doesn't have that ability. And the substantial discrepancy between his ring generalship and balance to that of almost every top 10 HW is so significant, I dont see how it can be ignored. If he is hurt, he wont survive a stalker like Marciano, Louis, or Dempsey. He cant escape. He escaped from Sanders, because Sanders is not an athlete. Hes just a guy with an incredibly powerful left who learned how to box. And Vitali barely escaped. How would he deal with non stop bombs being thrown at him by Rock? Its just not a good matchup for Vitali at all imo
Bombing out 6' 185-200 men is one thing. KOing a 6'7" 240lb behemoth with a solid chin is quite another. We simply don't know whether or not Rocky could hurt a fighter as big as Vitaly, especially one who is durable and has a good chin. Hell we don't know if Rocky could even reach vitaly's chin enough to hurt him. Vitaly is tall and fights tall behind a serviceable jab that he puts to good use and a potent right hand. Believe me I'm not making out Vitaly to be more than he is but what he is might be a little too much for Marciano who is considerably shorter both in height and reach and has a lot of weight against him. If Rocky fought more along the lines of Frazier and Dempsey I'd give him a better chance since both of those men were faster on the attack and had more head movement but Rocky doesn't. He comes forward out of a crouch but doesn't give angles like Dempsey or bobs and weaves like Frazier which would make it easier, though not necessarily easy, for Vitaly to reach him with his jab and right. Nor does he have the reach/hand speed of say Sanders that could really trouble him. Legacy wise Rocky wins hands down...as he would against someone like Holmes as well but that doesn't necessarily mean that he beats these men. We need to look at such matters not only on a relative basis but on a comparitive one as well. With that being said I'm not saying that Rocky has no chance. He certainly does but this might be a case where size does matter and Vitaly has that and some in this fight.
:happy you did read my mind. but i think that rocky had the perfect style to beat holmes, larry was vulnerable to the right hand, and the pressure boxers always had chance against holmes. frazier and marciano would have beat holmes in my mind.
Joe Louis scored a clean KO against Carnera, who weighed 260. Marciano could definitely do it against Vitali. What do you think about the Sanders fight Jim? How can you watch that first round and tell me Marciano cant knock Vitali out. How Vitali does not fight tall. Watch the Briggs fight, he bends his knees and is the same height as Briggs throughout the fight. Watch: Notice the difference in their height when they are close, and in the line of fighting [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dat_JG-9wPs[/ame] (click the arrow on the bottom tab, and click annotations off to get rid of the boxes) I've heard him explain in an interview that he doesnt use all of his height. He could adjust to fight tall against Marciano, but I dont think it would do him a favor, considering its not his comfort zone, and it would expose his mid section. Whoa, holy cow, I just read this part. For real? Lets play a game, you go find footage of Sanders punching at his, or near his fastest, and Ill do the same with Rock, then we cane compare. Are you game?
absolutely!! but reznick, joe louis in his prime was x 10 more accurate than marciano, he got great combinations, he had very fast hands , and he was 6´2. rocky was nothing accurate and 5´11 and i think that even vitali was faster than rocky. and you can´t compare carnera with vitali, carnera was stronger, but vitali is harder puncher, taller, more skilled ,faster,he has better chin and smarter
Joe Louis of '41 KO's Marciano of '51 with precision power punching, etc... Louis was still good in 1951, but well past his best nights in the ring..... WORD! MR.BILL
agreed Louis was 10x more accurate. And agreed he had much faster hands. But Rocky was definitely faster than Sanders. Once again Rocky was one of the most athletic fighters in history. He did have speed, and he could run fast, but he chose to utilize it in a more discreet manner. And in no way was I comparing Vitali to Carnera as boxers. But jim argued Rock could knock someone out who wieghed 240, and my point was taht Louis knocked out someone who was 260, so it doesnt really matter. Once again, if your 200lb, your big enough to KO anyone.
