Solis also turned an offer down to fight Vitali on his recent May date official reason provided by Arum on the scene was a date issue either he wants to capture the vacant belt after Vitali retired or he wants to wait for his mandatory spot
usually with cuban's it is all about rushing to the title due to the massive amateur pedigree. maybe solis has confidence issues and don't believe he can beat vitali, or maybe he is trying to target haye i dunno. i know briggs has spent years calling out k2 but surely this fight will gain vitali zero credit. haye would be ridiculed for fighting briggs. i hope it is just vitali being polite and considering all the offers professionally. do you know if the talks are at an advanced stage?
I wouldn't be surprised. It looks like Vitali has only got 1 or 2 more fights before he retires. Solis could choose to be in one of those fights, but he would be almost guaranteed to lose. Or he can wait for Vitali to retire and have a decent chance of winning the strap for himself. Seriously, the situation the Klits have found themselves in is almost comical. Champs who are being ducked by everyone, and who have to call out contenders. Povetkin has avoided Wlad forever and is only now going to fight. Valuev has ducked them both forever. Solis is not interested. Haye is pure coward. Adamek probably has the balls but realises that he is not yet ready. The guys who had the courage to fight have already been beaten. Which leaves them with the choice of beating up Sosnowskis, or the likes of Briggs - a guy who has no chance and is willing to take a thrashing because he is desperate for money. What a sick state the division is in, filled with cowards!
you cant justify a fight with briggs. and k2's biggest problem is that they only fight mutual opponents if one has lost. so they halve the number of contenders out there.
while i dont agree with Briggs fight. If the guys ranked above him in the WBC, wont fight Vitali, what should Vitali do? At least its a top 10 guy
the difference between Haye and Vitali is that Vitali is a proven champ and Haye refuses the tests. Vitali is getting slower and slower and reflexes get weaker. hes pretty much past it. imo he should retire. He was **** in the fight with KJ and even worse in the one with Sosnowski. Haye still wants no part of him from what it looks like so I dont really care who Vitali fights next. Solis has done **** either hes fat and his best win is Kevin Burnett. SNV has actually lost to Donald, Holy, Ruiz, Chagaev, Haye.. Briggs at least could be fun.
As Chef says, what else is Vitali to do? Wave a magic wand and create an opponent who is both worth fighting and also willing to do so? Which of the fighters that Wlad has beaten recently can you picture actually being willing to get into the ring with Vitali - and being thought of as a credible opponent? As this seems to be a voluntary defence I don't think that a potential opponent really needs to be ranked too high by the WBC. Guys like Chambers or Chag or clearly better fighters than Briggs - yet I think Vitali would cop just as much **** for "beating up on guys his brother already thrashed" If you can't justify a fight with Briggs, then what is the alternative? Take no fights at all?
but atleast they would be worthwhile opponents. adamek, solis, chagaev, chambers, thompson. all these would be better imo. hell even tua would be better and the public are crying out for him to get a title shot. i agree the opponent doesnt need to be ranked highly by wbc but he does need to be respected. it is just annoying the way double standards work. if haye fights harrison, even though it is massively lucrative and harrison is the european hw (the same credentials held by sosnowski) he is a coward. if vitali fights briggs it is somehow understandable. dont get me wrong, i like k2, outside english heavies they are my favourite heavies. seeing them hold all 4 belts at the same time would be a begrudgingly acceptable alternate to haye unifying. my problem is the double standards. the same thing happened when haye was in talks with kj. everyone said he was being a cherry picker fighting a can, yet when vitali does it he is suddenly an undefeated prospect with an amazing jab and great defence. briggs has fought a handful of rounds the past few years, he should atleast fight an eliminator first imo. briggs vs tua maybe, or peter. that said, ray austin is available and higher ranked but that fight would be worse than seeing briggs vs vitali, atleast briggs has a name.
Haye could do a fight with Vitali whenever he wants but the Klits cant get him in the ring thats the difference. theres no doubt that Vitali would rather fight Haye than Briggs. And Briggs is not that worse as Harrison is. Harrison was outboxed by clubfighters. Harrison is also scared and stops all activity as soon as someone tries to hit him thats why he is widely considered as Fraudley.
this post is largely irrelevant. back on topic. do you think briggs is deserving of a title shot with vitali klitschko?
slight difference between Klit and Haye is that nobody wants to fight Klit and everybody wants to fight Haye. Rly who is willing to face Vit now? ... only Toney comes to my mind.
IMO there is a big difference. Vitali is actively trying to fight the best available in the top 10 WBC... IMO Haye is not. Like I said.... Im not to happy with the briggs fight... but I think its better then haye harrison ****.. I would love Haye Briggs
