---Vitali Klitschko vs Tomasz Adamek: Keys to Victory---

I honestly think he has the best chance of beating a Klitschko since Sanders vs Vitali, which at the time was seen as a real 50/50 fight. Which was fair of course, Sanders was just coming off a stunning KO victory over one of the 20 best ever HW's who wasn't even shot.

Not only has Vitali got older but people seem to be forgetting that since his comeback the toughest fight anybody has given him was by Sosnowski who is a poor mans Adamek in every department.

Looking at the weight Vitali has come in as it's clear that team Vitali have pre-empted Adamek's game plan. They know fully well that Adamek has a chance to nick this on points in his home town. He is going to be very busy, in and out. Likely try and do what Spinks did to Holmes.

I still make Vitali the favorite to win, but this fight will certainly go to the later rounds. I'm backing Vitali on points or a tko in the 11th.

I have this fight 75/25 in Vitali's favor. Don't be surprised if this is the fight of the year.

i think roger bloodworth would probabaly do that and thats a good call, although it would be great if adamek could pull out the shock and shake up the division ( at least until wlad would 1-2 him into a tko)

 

Ok - my thoughts.....

From when this fight was first mooted around the time of Vitali being extended by Sosnowski and Briggs I fancied Adamek's chances of extending Klitschko and providing a stern test, if not winning.

Not much I've seen since then convinces me of anything different, however Adamek being taken the distance by a fat Kevin McBride doesn't exactly inspire you with confidence.

For Adamek (or anyone else) to get the better of Vitali they've got to take the fight to him. Even though he's way past his best, isn't anywhere near as heavy handed or quick on his feet, Vitali is still a stubborn obstacle to overcome, with his awkward stance and reasonably heavy shots thrown from the shoulder.

What encourages me about this matchup from Adamek's point of view is that he's retained his mobility - Johnson was able to make him miss a lot to the head by doing little other than covering up and getting on the bike.... Adamek is superior to Johnson offensively so I'm more confident that he'll be able to use raiding tactics to make the fight competitive, and if he gets clipped he's durable enough to take the punches.

From Vitali's point of view, it's the first time in his comeback that he's facing an opponent that can give him problems in both areas - make him miss and land shots of his own, and has come in to the fight in top condition to boot.

Vitali is what he is, he's an awkward, high volume fighter with iffy footwork and seemingly an open defence, but is very hard to land on consistently..... even if you do land, it won't cause him any problems, certainly not from a small HW in Tomasz.

He's got the length and a good enough jab to be capable of backing Adamek up and neutralising the likely tactics that will be used against him.... essentially turning the fight into a ''will he stop him or not?'' affair.

Essentially the styles matchup is in Vitali's favour, in that he's got more ways to win the fight.

So for me, keys to victory.....

Adamek

1. Work the body
2. Defence in the pocket
3. ''It's your time - go out and make it yours''

Klitschko

1. Establish the jab
2. Maintain a steady workrate
3. Concentration

For me Vitali wins a relatively clear decision after losing the early rounds. Adamek will come on late and throw a few bombs, which might lead to him taking a few and being pulled in the championship rounds.

 

It was the Grant fight that turned me from optimistic to nay sayer re: Adamek.

I really like him as a fighter, but I just can't see him pulling it off.

What Adamek really needs to do is go out and grab this - I liken this to a Championship side getting to the cup final, firstly go out and enjoy it, secondly give it everything, don't leave anything on the bus or in the change room.

He's obviously got to be careful not to invest too much emotion in the fight, but what we've seen with recent Klitschko opponents is a lack of desire to dig deep and put everything on the line.

It's been as if they're getting well paid, don't get hurt and walk away with a smile on their face.

He's not really had the ''gut check'' in over 40 fights. The Byrd fight is a strange one, a misadvised quittage that he'll always have to live with, and the Lewis fight ended too quickly for it to really count in that respect.

I want to see a come from behind TKO11/12, or him withstanding a late onslaught to hold on..... whether Adamek is that man remains to be seen, but I hope to God it is. Vitali can carry on smacking around the likes of Arreola until he's 50.
