He's big, he's awkward, not very fast and moves around the ring like some kind of construction equipment and he's my favorite heavyweight. Unlike his faster morefluid younger brother I think Vitali is the better fighter and as long as he stays healthy will be the dominant fighter in the division. Vitali is strangely built, with narrow shoulders yet with very long arms, and with his height of 6'7 looks like a giant version of Gumby. Yet in spite of all his awkwardness and lack of fluidity that Wladimir possesses he gets results. Wladimir I believe has the better one punch power but Vitali is more consistent with his punches and is more economical in his punch output. He also seems the much more relaxed fighter in the ring gradually breaking down his opponents with a very underrated yet heavy jab and straight right hands and taking very few punches in return. And he has yet to be knocked down, although I know some people talk about the slip against Corrie Sanders as a knockdown. Regardless even if it was called a knockdown he dished out a beating to the game Sanders breaking his nose in the process. A lot of people are critical of the heavyweight division, but Lennox Lewis wasnt accepted by a lot of fans being perceived as a man of many passports. Yet after he retired and his dominance in the division left with him, Lewis was accepted as a great fighter. Also while it lacks the glamour of the 1970's I was looking at some older boxing mags the other day and one circa 95 had a picture with Don King and the current champs which were Frank Bruno-WBC, Bruce Seldon-WBA, and Frans Botha -IBF. Todays belt holders are much better than these 3.
Vitali Klit is the REAL DEAL, dude........... But he is aging at age 37..... His clock is winding down, but he still has a good year or two left..... Klit needs to capitalize on his career right now..... No more jackin' off or injuries...... Peace... MR.BILL
He moves around like a giant crane, but that crane has a wrecking ball Really? And you have come to this conclusion because of? Maybe because it takes him 10 rounds to knock out blown up cruiserweights? Because he lands punch after punch on guys like Sam Peter and cant knock him down? Vitali isnt the real deal, the heavyweight devision sucks and that is why some slow, stiff, fragile joke like Vitali and Wlad are champions
Wlad, who hits plenty hard could not knock Peter doan. Vitali was the 1st man to stop Peter. Gomez was the type of fighter most older fighters avoid. A quick southpaw, with some size. He won one round vs Vitali was was systematically defeated. Vitali wasn't going for the early Ko with Gomez, but proved when he wanted to slug, he could floor the Cuban. If you watched all of Gomez fights, he did take some good shots from Virchis. Virchis can bang, so Gomez chin isn't all that bad.
Until he just gets old and someone steps in there and either takes him apart or just owns him, I say Vitali Klitschko is the reigning BADASS of the heavyweight division. His punching technique and manner of dominating and grinding down opponents with that cold, calculatingly awkward, angular style of his reminds me somewhat of a heavyweight Carlos Monzon. Vitali has ATTITUDE on top of evrything else, and he intimidates his opponents, rather than the other way around.
I dig V.K. to the max.... I already have him rated in my top-10 all-time heavyweight champion selection.... I had / have the balls to rate him at # 6...... Trust me, I'm taking lotsa' heat for that as well...... But I don't care..... I believe in Vitali Klit...... He's a bad dude..... MR.BILL P.S. Vitali Klit would be my prime pick as the Frankenstein Monster in a new version of the tale done in the manner of the 'Karloff' role of 1931...... The remake in 1995 with Robert DeNiro sucked long pool stick...... Cheers......
I think you are right in your general assessment of Vitali. I think he would have done better than 56-5 against Ali's opponents. However, in fairness, Gomez was no longer a "quick southpaw" when he fought Vitali. He was on the films from years earlier, but age had caught up with him. He fought Vitali as a one-punch at a time plodder.
Wlad is a more skilled fighter and a better puncher than his brother but Vitali is much tougher, meaner and has a hell of a chin ... he would be a challange for most ...
You see him doing better than 56-5 against Alis opponents? Id pick Frazier 3x, Foreman, Liston 2x, Holmes at the time Ali fought them to beat VK for starters. Norton, Lyle and Terrel are better than anyone VK has beaten. Add in the fact that Ali was in all likelyhood suffering from Parkinsons syndrome in at least the Holmes and Berbick fights
I think V.K. could handle Joe Frazier and Sonny Liston.......... As for Lyle, Terrell, and a few others, Klit beats them too......... Prime Ali, Holmes & Foreman would be a tuff order for Klit....... V.K. is the goods..... Peace.. MR.BILL
That blown up cruiserweight at 6'3 is naturally as big as Ali, Holyfield,Holmes and bigger than Louis, Liston, Frazier, Marciano. It just cracks me up when people diminish wins of current heavyweights by calling their opponents blown up cruisers. For the longest time, most HW's would be cruisers by today's standards. Joe Louis was beaten by Schmeling, who is smaller than Gomez, won the title from a much smaller Braddock. Ali struggled with a 188 pound Doug Jones and won the tilte from 6'1 Liston. Ali could not knock down Frazier in three fights, who would be smaller fighter at cruiserweight today. For their height, Vitali and Wlad have all the mobility and skills they need. Of course they will never move like Ali, if Ali was 6'7, neither would he. The Klitschkos are very difficult to hit and very accurate with their own punches - what else matters in boxing?
