I think you are mildly ******ed. Did you watch the fight? Lewis looked chubby and was breathing heavily, but still busted Vitali up. He weighed in at a career high weight, yes he was out of shape.

No one blamed the McCall loss on being out of shape, STFU.

Some people talk as if Vitali was putting on a Maywether/Gatti style beating against Lewis and then just as he was about to finish Lewis off somehow suffered a complete fluke of a cut from out of nowhere that robbed him of his win.

The reality is that Vitali started well, especially the first three rounds, but then Lewis, taking the best that Vitali had to offer, started busting Vitali's face up and won the fight fair and square. Watch the sixth round, Vitali was almost out on his feet and hanging on for dear life.

Couldn't possibly been due to the amount of heavy hands Lewis was throwing?

After throwing a couple dozen power punches in short succession a prime Lewis wasn't breathing heavily? Not even breaking a sweat I bet!

That is exactly right. Prime Vitali was about to be stopped and left horizontal staring at the lights or the ref could save him to fight another day. Prime Vitali wasn't even as good as a past prime and quite out of shape Lewis. Vitali is way overrated and offensively actually far below a second rate heavyweight like Corrie Sanders. Thank goodness for his size and the weakness of the current era or he would be completely forgettable. As it is, he is completely ignored in the US because everyone realizes that none of the great large sized athletes are boxing so his wins over complete bums means absolutely nothing. This era is the analog to the "war years" when all the able bodied athletes were competing elsewhere and only lower level scrubs remained to fight among themselves.

Lennox was his only ATG opponent ... Vitaly outboxed him
comfortably loosing on cuts so I guess that defines his ATG status.
Additionally he lost to Byrd due to injury being way ahead on points.

Based on that it may be said that Vitaly could be competitive against anybody
else in the history, and only the toughest from them could manage to break
him down ... or if they are lucky enough they could won due to Vitaly's injury.

A bevy of choice from a stupid, biased poster. Yes, the Lewis fight was what defined him in the States and in the UK. In Germany, it was probably his comeback win against Sam Peter. After a 4 year absence at 36 years old, Vitali came back and won every round against a respectable titleholder who was a decade his senior.

The Lewis fight was definitely Vits biggest/most important. And I wouldn't say shot so much as faded, out of shape and halfway out the door. He was preparing to fight the headcase known as Kirk Johnson. I doubt he put as much work in the gym as he would have had he known from the outset that he was fighting Vit. An properly prepared Lennox would have ko'd Klit in the later rounds. As the fight went on he was getting stronger and won the last 2 rounds, finding a home for his money punch, the uppercut. Vitaly will be chasing that ghost for the rest of his life. I wish there were some more talented folks in the heavyweights so we could get a true sense of both Klits abilities, but I still think Lewis beats them both every time.

Really? Vitali at the time was thought to be a heartless quitter with no boxing skills whatsoever. Most people expected Lewis to easily outbox Vitali, many said Vitali's robotic, slow telegraphed punches would never even get close to Lewis' chin.

Had Lewis known he was to face Vitali he might actually have trained even less.
