I often see this man's name on the top ten best chin. I ask myself, based on what? Apparently this iron chin aura stems from the uppercut that Vitali took from Lennox Lewis. A fight he couldn't even last the whole twelve rounds. Guys like Ray Mercer and Zeljko Mavrovic ate more had punches from Lewis and you hardly see their name on the top ten list. Some how you have Vitali ranked over guys like. Glenn Johnson,

Its mind boggling when you see this man's name over men with proven chin against known opposition such as David Tua, Ike Ibeabuchi

Not saying that Vitali is China chinned but he's far from being an iron chin warrior. He was knocked out by an unknown British kick boxer. He was also rocked and on ***** street by a Sanders left hook. Though the ref and his fans disagree, Vitali was actually knocked down in that fight.

When you consider the fact that this man towers over his opposition by some ridiculous size disparity, you realise how risibly overrated his chin is.

I kinda agree to be honest. The guy definitely has a solid chin but he hasn't been hit with anything to suggest hes iron chinned. Hes just not glass chinned like Wlad.

But the kick boxing knock out shouldn't really reflect on his chin. He was hit with a kick. Kicks are usually stronger than punches/you don't see them coming so its a lot easier to KO someone with a kick than a punch.

Heavyweights hit harder. if you dont get kd once in your career legitly your a iron chinned fighter.

you dont carry 50lbs off chin muscles and punch resistance, but you carry 50lbs more punching power. Thats why any punch from any man over 13stone can knockout anyone, and even more so if your 16+ stone. just the way i look at it.

Going by that logic, David Tua has a glass chin because he was knocked out in 15 seconds by a single punch from Felix Savon (and ironically this statement has much better case than yours).

On a more serious note, I do think that Vitali's chin/punch resistance is often overrated and people talk about it like he was able to take an enormous amount of punishment like it was nothing.

But also, even more important thing is that the whole "chin talk" is ridiculously exaggerated in the online community. The chin means little without the skills. Considering Vitali's skills and defense, his chin was more than enough for his style of fighting. I agree that his punch resistance is often overrated, but it was still very good and it gave a significant contribution to his style being extremely difficult to deal with

"A fight he couldn't even last the whole twelve rounds", what does a cut stoppage have to do with his chin? He took some HEAVY punches from Lewis and he took them well.

Now as for the kickboxing stuff, he got knocked out by a kick, that carries a lot more power than a punch, it doesn't really apply to his boxing chin.

The only legitimate example to support your argument is that of the Sanders' fight.

Exactly. The people who say it is on a par with guys like Chuvalo or McCall are overstating it. I would say it's more on a par with Mike Tyson's. Vitali, like Tyson, could take a good punch - but like Tyson, he could be hurt also.

His chin is clearly very good but it doesn't compare to the very best chins. Mercer took a number of huge uppercuts from Lewis as well as many other shots without even flinching. McCall on the brink of a mental breakdown fueled by drug withdrawal was never close to being hurt. Mavrovic took flush power shot after flush power shot with little effect.

Vitali impressed many by taking that uppercut but he was stunned by the shot. He was staggered by a right hook in the last round against Lewis and held on for dear life to survive the round. Vitali's chin was good enough to never be taken out by one shot even if hit flush but he could clearly be ground down and stopped if hit enough.

He clearly has a great chin but I would say probably Top 10. But I would say a few others are more impressive.

A guy like Mavrovic took a hellacious beating and kept moving forward.

Are you people out of your mind? of all the talk about a weak division...this man fought all the big punchers including lewis and although he didn't get hit all the time he took big punches and he took the biggest punch from the biggest puncher for almost 2 decades.... if you want to degrade what he did then tell me Vitali started late...tell me he was hampered by injury late in his career but do not ever tell me his chin wasn't granite.....

Wow, a man who has never been knocked out or knocked down in his career and stood up to the vicious uppercuts and hooks by Lewis and the left hook of Sanders somehow has an overrated chin. The uppercut Lewis hit him with at 2:04 of round 6 I would bet was the hardest punch a human being as ever landed on another human being and he took the punch without much problem.

OP you just went full ******, never go full ******.

Iron chin that was among the best.

How can he not be when he was never taken off his feet, much less, KOed?

Among the best based on being punched by who other than Lennox Lewis?
