Getting knocked out by a kick to the head by a professional kickboxer is hardly indicative of a lack of punch resistance. Do you have any idea how hard some of those *******s can kick? [yt]ltOdeFoyYO8[/yt]
how? they cant manage round 6 on the gas they have. just because a retired gassing 38 year old nobody Sanderscan cause havoc to the K bros, that doesn't mean that this old nobody can beat all yesteryears golden age fighters.... it means, and only means with surety this sole fact - that an old nobody can cause havoc to only the K bros. if being a fatboy would have been an advantage in the golden age, then buster mathis would have ruled the golden age with ko stoppages of ali frazier foreman. NO it didn't happen. so please cut the crap on this gassing fatboy superiority theory.
I like it too, although I wouldn't say I was a massive fan or very knowledgeable about it. I mainly know about the HWs (not an expert on them by any means though) - Cro-Cop, Hoost, Aerts, Hari, Schilt, Hug, Bonjasky. Boxing first for me, then MMA, then I'd say kickboxing. I do enjoy watching kickboxing whenever I get a chance to see it, but boxing and MMA is more widely publicized and therefore easier to keep track of what's going on. I just like watching fighting. lol. I don't like seeing uncontrolled violence on the street, bars etc. though. That's just ugly and uncivilised. lol
He had a really good chin. I guess you could say an iron chin. I just don't think he was hit often enough by big punches to draw the conclusion that it's among the best in history. That uppercut by Lewis was sick, but it's also the sound the punch makes when it connects that influences people. Holyfield took that exact same uppercut in the 9th against Lewis but nobody talks about that, because it didn't have that 'crack' to it. Sanders connected with a hard left hook that Vitali clearly felt, and had him backpeddling and borderline running to buy time to clear his head. Other than those two times, I don't recall a banger landing clean and hard against him. Briggs hit him flush with a so-so right hand late in their fight, but it wasn't a full-blooded power shot. His never being down is a feather in his cap, but it has as much to do with his awkward style, physical dimensions and overall skill as it has to do with his chin. He never took a sustained beating of any kind, and never took even two or three hard shots in succession. Chuvalo, Mercer, McCall, Cobb all did and more. There is just not enough to go on to suggest that his chin is in that class.
To me Vitalis chin is untested more than anything else. And Corrie Sanders dropped him in the first round. And no Corrie Sanders wouldnt drop anybody in the first, because he didnt.
Yes, tested to a point. Hes definitely above glass jawed. Id say his chin is good. To be pronounced great it has to be tested, like Alis and Holyfields were. Great isnt something which is just thrown out there, you have to earn it.
wow yeah just watched this fight...at the end vitali and team celebrating beating a 38 year old who only stopped because he was gassed out halfway and still dropped vits. that's like celebrating a win over 40something version of chuck wepner.
This often repeated myth from the idiot attaboi that he was dropped by a left hook from Sanders is nonsense. The punch in question didn't even land, Vitali blocked it and it went flying past the right side if his head. It never made contact with his head. He then got shoved off balance by Sander's right arm. This is why the ref ruled no knockdown.
Thanks, I'll check them out. I've actually heard of most of them before, with the exception of Banchamek and Bille. I've seen a few fights of some as well. I think I watched a documentary about Dekkers a while back and I've also seen one or two of Kaman's and Ignashov's fights as well. The Netherlands certainly churns out a lot of top quality kickboxers. The last kickboxing event I saw featured Petrosyan - he lost to that guy from Suriname Riste and then Riste then subsequently got knocked out in the final by someone who hadn't stopped many. It was actually a really good fight. But cheers, I'll definitely check those other guys out. :good
Yeah, I watched a documentary about him too a few years ago. He did seem like a really nice guy. Shame he died so young. Hell of a fighter by all accounts too. I remember seeing one of his fights (can't remember who it was against now) that was an absolute war. It was one of the best kickboxing fights I've ever seen.
