Byrd evade David tua just fine and that guy was even shorter. You think Vitali never nailed Byrd with a solid shot the entire fight?

And Byrd on 10 days notice had to fight a 6'7" fighter instead of the 6'2" fighter he was training for.

You have to admire that kind of dedication and professionalism. Not to mention the intelligence behind such an evidence-based approach.

Have some manners, this a boxing forum, not a place to dirade anyone's wife, girlfriend whatever, you should be ashamed of yourself.

losing usually disqualifies an opponent until they can rebuild themselves with wins, in this case 2 brothers dominated in most cases it's the dominating contenders, In the 50's Archie Moore beat many top heavyweights and put himself in contention. So just because some of the opponents you mentioned that Vlad or his brother Vitali beat it does not erase the LOSS on their record and it eliminates them from contention.

Usually. But this was a close fight (a difference of only 8 more landed punches) that ended through injury. Its not as if Byrd trounced him. He was down on the cards at the time of stoppage.

I'd argue one brother dominated, the other coasted much of his career.

I always considered Vitali to be a bit of an opportunist. Fair play to his effort against Lewis, even if Lewis was at his worst.

But Vitali sure did know how to milk that 'moral victory' dollar.

His return in 2008 was a cheap cash grab, in my opinion.

Holmes fought 17 Ring ranked opponents, and his win over Mercer at the age of 42 is better than anything Vitali ever did.Holmes resume shits all over Vitali's.
What are Vitali's 3 best wins?
Now how about you list all the men Lewis ducked?[/QUOTE]

Ray Mercer had an iron chin, and it would nullify power punchers like Lenoox Louis etc. but the same Ray mercer was very beatable if you boxed him - Jesse Furgerson beat him a year later than Holmes and Jesse from the time 8/31/85 when he was stopped by Carl Williams till 10/19/95 lost 16 of his 23 fights and Rays 2 fights vs were in the mist of that (1993) and most felt Jesse won both.

As far as Holmes opponents - His best win was Gerry Cooney - Cooney never fought beyond 8 rounds, was a one-armed puncher and had 2 first rd. KOs in the 2 fights prior to Holmes.
Weaver surprised the world and Holmes when the 19-8 trial horse (who was stopped by the likes of Billy Ryan, Larry Frazier, Rodney Bobick) had Holmes hurt several times)

King owned the WBC at the time, and everyone knew the ratings were controlled by him. The other organizations had different ratings and Champions, but he also had control
So being rated by the WBC was bogus - but you know that.

Holmes title defenses were usually the least of the available opponents and with help of the WBC ratings _ Holmes and team avoided the top dangerous men of the time and never unified (which would have brought money) When he fought Michael Spinks (who had never fought as a heavyweight) Spinks was the least of threats - guys like Tate, Page, Dokes, Coetzee, Thomas, (rematches with Williams-Witherspoon, Weaver) - Anyway Michael Spinks right handed his way to beating Holmes 2X and then Holmes forced to face Mike Tyson ko'd brutally in 4

Holmes was one of my favorites at the time, I admired his spirit, but I was very disappointed in his choices because Ali fought everyone. Holmes fought the men with 10 fights 12 fights 14 fights and even when he fought Renaldo Snipes (Snipes got dropped 2x by Coetzee and King robbed Coetzee of the shot at title) and Snipes right hand nearly took Holmes out.

Shavers may have been one of his best opponents (nearly taking Holmes out) _ I had ringside tickets to Shavers when he got KO'd in 1 by Quarry, when he lost to 21-24 Bob Stalling and dropped for a 9 count in the 9th round. I also had had ringside seats to Ali/Shavers -Shavers -Ellis - Shavers had a great right hand but lacked stamina and could be outboxed or outslugged -Ron Stander and Quarry - Lyle and Mercado-Cobbs took Shavers brutal bombs and fired back took Shavers out.
Holmes was top 10 ATG, but he avoided too many right-hand punchers and was beaten primarily by M Spinks right hand and Tyson showed us as well as Shavers, Snipes, Issacs that the right hand was the Holmes kryptonite.

As far as Lewis he was one of my favorites - I always rooted for him.

Some people say he avoided Byrd, but I don't think it was because of fear - I think it was money and the fact it was hard to look good vs Byrd, but Lewis didn't fight Ike Ibeabuchi who KO'd Byrd and beat Tua
So, Lewis toughest opponent would have been IKE who had a good chance style wise vs Lewis and Lewis should have rematch Vitali - that fight gave Vital confidence, and I know Lennox mother had a bad dream, that Lennox lost the rematch, so Lennox opted out - it was a major money rematch

I was referring to Ring ratings ,WBC ones would give Holmes more rated wins!

ps Mercer was no 5 when Holmes beat him.
