Comparable resumes although I do think Vitali is the much better fighter. Vitali would beat every opponent Wilder did and Wilder most likely beats all of Vitalis wins as well. Wilder still has time to add a few good names to his CV.

When I look at the record book it says Lewis TKO 6 Vitali.

Vitali would have DESTROYED Wilder. Just all wrong for Wilder stylistically.

Vitali resume much better than Wilder’s resume. Not to say Vitali’s record is good it’s fair at best but Wilder’s is the pits.

Had he mixed it up with the guys you mentioned, he would have lost his title and never faced Fury.

    Their resumes are comparable.

Both had epic wars with Hall of Famers who they lost against - Vitali against Lewis/Wilder vs. Fury III.

Both were long-reigning WBC Champs. Vitali also won the WBO belt when it mattered little. Now that the WBO is as legitimate as all the others, if not moreso, that looks better, in hindsight. Vitali also won a vacant RING belt after Lewis retired.

Vitali's accomplishments are better. Although, Wilder's two knockdown draw with Fury in a SUCCESSFUL title defense and his KO wins over Luis Ortiz are all probably better than any opponent Vitali successfully defended against. Vitali certainly never floored twice or successfully defended any of his belts over someone as good as the current World Champ Fury.

Vitali really solidified his position when he returned to the ring late in life. Most of Vitali's best names during that period were guys who were better in the lower weights - Adamak at light heavyweight and cruiserweight, and Gomez at cruiserweight. Truthfully, though, neither of them was really viewed as a threat by anyone at heavyweight.

If Wilder returns, he could go the Vitali route and fight names moving up from lower divisions. Fight the Light Heavyweight Champ Beterbiev who says he wants to fight at heavyweight. Wilder and Beterbiev were amateur heavyweights together. It would be a very fun fight.

Fight Usyk, whether he wins or loses the return against Joshua. Usyk is also better than anyone Vitali defended against. If Usyk wins against Joshua, his fight with Wilder could be for three of the four belts. That would help Wilder's resume. Also, fight Briedis at heavyweight. They are all Wilder's peers. (Although, Briedis has turned into a weirdo getting YouTuber's names tattooed on his body.)

Maybe fight a newcomer who is young enough that a win over him will look better in hindsight, like a Dubois, who could have a long, successful career ahead of him.

Wins over Andy Ruiz or Joseph Parker would be okay, too, but who cares, really? They may have held titles briefly, but they looked awful trying to defend them. People don't have much respect for them.

A Joshua fight would be great, but even if they do fight, people will always say it should've happened sooner.

Or Wilder could just stay retired. He had a great career. And people would love to see him return. The division sorely misses him.

Some fighters, like Andre Ward and Mikey Garcia, retire and their announcements are met with a collective shrug. Nobody cares.

People are clamouring for Wilder to return. He's a lightning rod. The sport could use more exciting fighters like him.

    10 defenses 9 by knockout.
One defense of the title is extremely debatable.
Vitali's resume is better, but it is far from magnificent (the kind that Lennox Lewis had, for example).
Of course I don’t want to turn the topic into a TKO6 topic.

Adamek and Briggs are the best wins between the two. I think Vitali is HOF but not ATG.

Watch the full fight carefully, you'll see Vitali beat Lewis.

Vitali had the chance to fight Fury but fought Chisora instead. Vitali would not beat Fury on points let alone KO him. Now Wilder v Vitali that would have been a good match up,could Vitali take the punishment that we all know Wilder will take to try and get the win as that’s what a fight between these two could well have came down too ? I think Wilder would sneak it by late stoppage with Vital citing injury and retiring like In the Byrd fight .

I have watched it closely and I saw Vitali ahead at the time of the stoppage, which takes nothing away from Lewis' VICTORY. Lennox did what an ATG does, and that is to win in the face of adversity. The fact that it was his last fight & he was out of shape just makes it even more impressive.

Did they fight the last six rounds after the cameras shut off? Otherwise, the guy who had his hand raised won and the guy bleeding out lost.

Vitali would beat Lewis and Fury based on what? Based on beating the likes of Sam Peter, Kevin Johnson and Manuel Charr?

Vitali got his face smashed into 1000 different pieces by the worst ever version of Lennox Lewis, a Lewis who was old, unprepared, unfit and shot to pieces

Vitali should thank his lucky stars he fought in such a weak era, otherwise he would have more than 2 stoppage losses

Nothing lucky about smashing someones face in with punches and stopping them in 6...
