What's so funny about it? You know it's true. FYI, Vit was ahead on all cards before both losses. Baby Byrd was still behind from a one-armed fighter. Ask Lennox, he got out when the geting out was good. He knew he'd have to kill Vit to win the rematch.
You total and utter ****ing idiot. Vitali QUIT in the Byrd fight. Thats why the quote is so ridiculous. He was sure as hell not close to death. I an think of a number of ways to beat him. Cut his face to shreds, Makhim quit, or simply outpoint the guy. He would, and has, quit a long, long way before his life started to be endangered. Tool.
Hell Rahman made him quit 4 times just by handing him a pen and a contract :deal Don't forget Maskaev KO'd him too, as did Pele Reid.
There was only one incident of him having a cut. Could happen again, but I would doubt it. Another longshot would be if he had another major injury like he did in the Byrd fight. No one has ever come close to outpointing him on the scorecards.
Wlad did to Rahman what Vitali would have basically done 3 years ago. Can you provide official evidence of him losing by KO to Maskaev in the amateurs? I have seen the fight. He got Knocked out. Vitali is also a six time kickboxing world champion and HW boxing champ. Everyone loses a fight. Everyone.
No offense DTB, our newest hardcore KLIT-ite. ...but you've been asking a lot of questions that we've covered before, understandable since you are new. 1. Ross Greenberg (boss of HBO sports) is quoted in a Thomas Hauser article stating that he wasn't aware of Brewster's medical suspension at the time of the fight...he was well aware at the time he was quoted though. 2. There is an OLEG interview giving the details of ViTKLiT's corner throwing in the towel at an Army tournament back in the day... There is also a Manny Steward interview where he is asked about it. Manny said it's true, but it was because of "injuries"...I **** you not, they were using that even before he was a pro. 3. Pele Reid KTFO ViTKLiT in kickboxing...so don't bring up how impressive he is as a kickboxer unless you want to tell the whole story, which includes getting KTFO. All of this stuff can be found searching this forum...but our search function sucks **** here though, it won't take you to specific posts, only thread titles. :-(
Finn, Good point. There are no Tyson or Foreman's in the division now because the Klitschko's and, previously, Lewis dominated and destroyed any of them from developing up to that level. What we have now is a HWT landscape with a bunch of Ossie Ocasio's, Tony Galento's, and Ron Lyles - good useful tough fighters but none with the capacity to ever become "the best." This is what happens when the king of the hill is so dominant and great as the Klitschkos are now, as Lewis was during his reign.
Lewis was 38, inactive, out of shape and came to the ring weighing a career high 256+ lbs and Vitaly still couldn't beat him, Hell peak Rahman beats that version of Lewis, Vitaly is good NOT great, lets leave it at that.
:rofl These guys suck period, guys like Maskiev, Briggs, Barret and Austin weren't much in thier prime yrs during the 90s but in this era where where there are only a hand full of decent guys like Brock, Chagaev, Povetkin and Haye, they become top 20 guys and even champs, Valuev who is a top 5 guy is TRASH, Ibrigamov is TRASH, Peter, Thompson, Austin, Barrett are all TRASH. McCline, Rahman, Toney, Maskiev, Tua and Ruiz while nothing special in thier day are all old and over the hill now, this division is worse then the 80s and the early 50s, the is the worse era of HW boxing ever.
When we judge people we have to look at a lot of factors. Vitali does not come out looking that great when judges from a Holistic approach. 1) He really hasnt beat that many great fighters. This is the number one criteria people look at. 2) His overall record is quite good with a very high Ko % 3) He hasnt had a lot of title defenses or reigned soley over a division. Now one thing I dont give a lot of weight to is H2H match ups. I find that comparing a 6'8 roided Vitali against a 6'0 Patterson or Charles is a mismatch. H2H injury free vitali would trouble anyone at heavyweight at anytime in history. I think one thing we can all agree on is that had Vitai not suffered that grazing right hand that opened that cut over his eye vs Lewis we would really be talking about Vitali.
I never really liked the term KLIT-ite. I am a fan, just like how I am a fan of the Eagles, Sixers, Phillies, and Flyers. FW said that Oleg KO'd Vitali. That is not correct. I'm not trying to split hairs, but a KO is different from retiring because of an injury. I am well aware of the storyline. Yea, Pele Reid did KO him, but like I mentioned Vitali went on to win 6 World Championships. I'll try to look through the archives and find some of the quotes and so forth. Thanks.
