If you followed Toney's career, you would know that Toney never comes for a payday. He is old school and will stand right in front of Vitali.

I partially agree with your above statement that winning over James Toney won't add much more to his legacy. But one can argue that JT an ATG and that when he comes in shape, it would still be a somewhat of a decent victory.

Also, ahy s hpuld a win over Arreola do that much more?Keep in mind that Arreola's best name in his record is 38 year old McCline.

I think that the overall division - except for the Klitschko's - lacks quality... Fighters like Haye or Arreola get immediate title shots without being properly tested... besides Chambers and Povetkin there are virtually no high level, worthy contender out there

So, Fres learned a thing of two from Johnnyboy Ruiz!! The TKO loss against the hugger paid off afterall, but still the judges screwed him:D.

It's true that no-one ever came close in KO'ing Toney but if he eats shot after shot maybe the bout would be stopped eventually by the ref or the towel will be trown in? C'mon, Vitali almost KO'ed everyone put in front except Hoffman (after his shoulderpain loss against Byrd, maybe he decided to take the next fight a little easy). Ok, he lost against Byrd and Lennox but if these fights weren't stopped Vitali might have KO'ed them, nobody can eat those shots the entire fight without damage. I'm not comparing Toney with Peter. The fight would be not Toney eating shots like Peter but Toney trying to shoulderroll a few shots and taking more shots. I think the fight would be stopped in a similar fashion as the Peterfight:cool:

It is impossible to foresee how Vitali would deal with Toney's style because he has never faced someone similar. I challenge everybody here to prove the opposite. Truth is nobody knows.

IMO, Vitali would not land a lot of clean hard shots and would,as a consequence, look clunbsy at times. On the other side, I don't see how Toney could come in punching range against the giant and be productive offensively .That is why this fight is interesting for the hardcore boxing fans.

The peter II fight is not a good example. It is obvious that Toney did too much weight lifting for the fight and was not mobile in his upper body movement.

Vitali or Wlad won't fight James Toney. Let me try to imitate the legendary Jack Prescott here, he would write something like: The Klitschkos will run from James Toney and hide from him in the dark shadow of his giant black balls.

James Toney is NOT an ATG. Is he a first ballot Hall Of Famer? Yes. ATG? Nope. His resume just does not stack up with other legit ATG's.

Not even close. Compare his resume to Hopkins or even Jones (who i think has a weak resume but it is better than Toney's)

He won the IBF belt in 3 weight divisions. Never unified. Never was THE Champion of a division. Then goes to Heavyweight and flunks 2 steroid tests where his best win is Oquendo (a fight many thought he lost) Guinn, or old Holyfield.

He was a very good fighter but not an ATG.

If the fans and HBO would want them to fight Toney they probably would. Problem is: Toney having any pull with US viewers is a thing of the distant past. HBO is not interested.

If Toney believes he's worthy he should get in line for a mandatory shot. No way the brothers can avoid him then. Very simple.

Not only Toney's age, but also his size disparrity would also take away from Vitali's win.

Toney is 5 foot 11, I think, and Vitali is 6 foot 8. Saying he beat an old, obese former middle weight would be bad enough, but to see them at the staredown.........That would make the fight even more rediculous to most boxing fans.

Toney would be eye-to-eye with Vitali's nipples. LOL

Toney's quest would be keep from getting jabbed and straight right handed to death, and to, somehow, finally get inside Vitali's range, and land. But even if he did manage to get inside (big IF) and he lands, so what? Toney has no power to speak of, and Vitali's chin is cast iron, forged in fire. S

o the best Toney could do, would be weather the beating in order to occassionally worm his way inside, and land a shot, here and there. A shot that would have no effect, whatsoever.

But think of the beating and raining down of heavy shots that Toney would have to endure as he attempts to get inside and land one or two of his pitter patter shots. He wouldn't be able to withstand it long enough to land much of anything.

Vitali would be the first fighter to knock Toney OUT.

I think we've had enough deaths in boxing as of late, we don't need another in James Toney.

Vitali - Toney would look like a remake of Vitali - Johnson. A fat, out of shape son of a ***** getting his pork belly punched until it bursts:
