The past has shown us if you stay too long someone will get you. Ali, Louis, Holmes,

I think Vitali should have one more fight vs the winner of Dimentrenko/Pulev or a fight of that nature. He should let his brother fight the elimination of Haye/Chisora and Povetkin/Huck winner to get Vlad and retire with a 45-2 record. I know he fought with one mitt last night and still dominated but I have not really seen his power and 40 years old is pushing it...Maybe if he gets about 4 years of rest he can come back at the age of 45 and win a title if he wants but his body looks like it needs a rest or he will show up tired one night in the near future and lose and it will be held against his legasy

Historically he's already way past that point - that is, history's lesson was that he shouldn't unretire, which he was able to do successfully.

Vitali doesn't appear to be taking undue punishment, and if he wants to box on fir a couple more years, I don't se anything wrong with that. He is continuing to slip though.

I think Chisora was just a bad style match up for him and much improved fighter over the past couple of years. I think Chisora can be a champ in the future if the bros retire

With Vitali's dedication can fight equivilents of Adamek and Sam Peter until he's 50 without fear of loss if he feels like it. A Haye fight I'm not sure about though

Most champions don't have the sense to retire at the right time..i think Vitali does and it wouldn't surprise me at all if yesterday's fight was his last.

The guys 40. He can lose the next ten fights of his career and they won't be held against him.

He's already made his comeback from retirement and has definitely improved his legacy with some solid victories underlining his number 2 position in the division.

He is declining but at age 40 is anyone really surprised?

    Agreed..

Anything that he does from this point forth is just a bonus, and not a check against him...

I agree with those who say he is 40, and anything he does now can only be a bonus.

Thing is, he's slipping, but he's still good. Like, really good. He takes less than a hundred punches a fight, on average. In a couple of cases, way less. He hasn't taken anything resembling punishment in his latest title run, including yesterday. Worse fight he's ever had was Lewis, and nothing else in terms of power shots has been even a fraction as bad.

Vitali, if his injuries have truly healed well, is in no danger boxing on. He'll be fine, and in this case, he deserves the opportunity to box on either until he decides to call it, or somebody can actually beat him.

Dropping two rounds to a guy like Chisora is not a reason to retire.

When a guy comes to fight and put on pressure, its hard to pitch a shutout. Chisora was game, and Vitali still beat him extremely widely.

Biggest thing I see him losing is his ability to punish. He just doesn't commit to the same volume of hard hits he used to, and its forcing him to go the distance, which is where his age shows up, in terms of stamina.

If I were his trainers, I would tell him to up the ante a bit and try to get some more punishment on a guy early.

Unless he has some sort of recurring shoulder injuries, which I'm hearing talk he does.

As a big fan of Vitali's my first reaction was he should consider retirement. I scored the fight 8-3-1 for Vitali, which is big win in any title fight, however Vitali did not resemble the dominating world beater we saw just a few months ago vs. Adamek. Vitali has been as consistent as a metronome since his smashing comeback vs Peter. Last night he threw less punches, and seem to have less concussive force on the punches that landed. While I do think Chisora has a top level chin, something wasn't quite right with VK last night.

Old age can catch up on a fighter over night. After hearing about the injury ( Vitali threw far less than normal ), perhaps it was just a combination of things. Was it an injured arm / hand, an off night, and the toughest style match up that made him look less effective than normal? Or perhaps father time is catching up. Time will tell

Boxing is the type of sport where everyone remembers what you did last. I think Vitali should take an easier match up vs. a higher ranked opponent to see where he stands. If he looks the same, then he should think about retiring. If he looks like he did vs. Peter, Arreloa, Adamek et all, I say press on.

I knew after the Helinius fight, that Chisora was going to do better than expected. I think that he was just a bit better than we all thought.

I vote that VK has another fight left in him, and after that he should make a choice.
