Prime Vitali had such savage power he KOed Herbie Hide with the wind of his punches. Fact.

 

Vitali's chin is solid but he's been rocked on more than one occasion. In fact the two fighters who came closest to knocking him down were coincidentally the same two fighters who were able to consistently hit him flush on the chin.

Contrast that to someone like Chuvalo, Cobb, Tua or McCall who routinely absorbed huge punishment without going down. Vitali's only once been in the type of back and forth firefight where his chin was seriously tested and he lost by TKO, albeit on cuts. One fight that ends in stoppage after six is not really not a big enough body of evidence to claim a fighter's ATG chin status.

 

Sam Peter's marginally better than Jameel McCline as evidenced by their fight, but Tua and Holyfield kick his fat arse from numerous angles.

 

Zeljko Mavrovic ate those and more like it for twelve rounds and was never once staggering and falling into clinches like Vitali was at the end of the sixth. I'd say, based on their respective performances alone, that Mavrovic had a clearly superior jaw.

 

Vitali and his brother did nothing but feast on bums their whole career.
