even a not-so-prime Vitali is pretty damn tough.

Calling Vitali the best ever, well, there's no logical explanation to that silly statement (or at least not yet, lol)

Vitali lacks dynamics in his punches, he is an arm puncher although with a lot of power. He doesnt knock out his opponents out cold but slowly damages them to the point the ref stops it.

One thing I dont understand is why does everyone (exept for Lewis) just stands in front of Klitschko and waits for them to punch. This strategy has been proven to not work. I thought Briggs would put everything on the line for 3 rounds and then submit if he doesnt suceed, instead he did what everyone before him did, stand and wait for Vitali to punch.

But if they said those fighters were the best they fought they'd clearly be lying.

People bring up the fact Lewis knocked Briggs out, but ignore Briggs had him in all sorts early on. And that was a prime Lewis.

Briggs couldn't get a look in against the much older Vitali and received a 12 round beating with Vitali landing almost at will. A prime Vitali who had more of a killer instinct would've destroyed Briggs in a few rounds also.

I don't think Briggs has an ulterior motive for saying Vitali is the best he fought, given the schooling he'd just received.

I really believe Vitali would have beaten Lewis if the eye had not stopped him. Chris Byrd would have lost too...
Guess Lewis didn“t rematch Vitali, because he knew he couldn't take that kinda punishment for 12 rounds...

Vitaly is always going to be defined by Lewis.

That being said, since I think Lewis is a top 5 heavy, that does not have to restrict him that much. He is starting to build his legacy, and a couple of marquee figths, maybe agaisnt Haye and Valuev, will leave him with a fine legacy.

Darroll Wilson KOed Briggs in 3 before Lewis did it so I guess he is better than both Lennox and Vitali.

The comparisons are ******ed. Lewis was a KO artist so it's no surprise he won earlier but it doesn't make him the better or worse fighter. If Vitali was still 32 he would have stopped a 27 year old Briggs without any difficulty. He would have committed to far harder punches and more often because he wouldn't have to pace himself.

It's clear that Vitali is a more consistent, focused and tactical fighter than Lewis but doesn't have 1-punch KO power that Lennox used to ice opponents. He provides a methodical beatdown with heavy hands and accumulation while taking little return fire similar to Floyd Mayweather Jr. I can't recall another heavyweight that takes so little damage from opponents even at close to 40.
