Vitali was getting smacked around by Byrd. Byrd found his rhythm & virtually couldn't miss vitz. Vitali was throwing left hooks even in the last round that's what always confused me. It seems Vitali just couldn't find his rhythm & was gassed more than a rogue shoulder injury
How it goes is, if Vitali isn't injured he wins the fight. Boxing is the only sport where serious injuries don't allow people to retire without shame because people view boxing as a simulation of fighting. But it's a sport. If it was a true simulation of fighting then Vitali could have started using kicks and knees and headbutts and could still be competitive. In sports like tennis if you tear your shoulder the match is over because you can't play. If you are way ahead and you suffer a serious injury and retire, nobody thinks the opponent beat you. Real injuries can happen that have nothing to do with the opponent doing damage, it's just bad luck. A relatively recent one was Groves Eubank where Groves dislocated his shoulder and was just fortunate it was the last round. If that had happened rounds earlier he'd need to retire or risk being KO'd. In a 'real fight', of course Groves could do other things or even retreat to fight another day. Boxing isn't a real fight, it's a sport.
Yes Vitali had a shoulder injury during the Chisora fight. Vitali Klitschko has revealed he picked up a shoulder injury during his one-sided points victory over Dereck Chisora. The WBC heavyweight champion suffered a 'partial tear' of ligaments in his left shoulder as early as the fourth round of the fight, causing him to throw the left less frequently. You're a joke. I posted information on the post above regarding the injury. Also Vitali easily won this fight, despite the injury. The boxing hall of fame is full of people who quit with less injuries.
You said he had the same injury as Holyfield. How could it be the same when Holyfield reqiured surgery and Vitali didn't? You also dismissed Holyfield's injury since it was reported by his lawyer. Vitali revealed he injured his shoulder just like David Haye revealed he injured his toe.. EXCUSES.
The injury Groves had made his arm look like it was hanging on by skin and ligement. He could barely move it let alone throw a punch with it. Vitali was still thowing punches like normal up untill the round he quit. His injury was nowhere near as bad as the one Groves had.
There was an article right on this website less than a month ago about a doctor who said Vitali's boxing career would have been over if he had tried to finish the fight. https://www.boxing247.com/boxing-news/vitali-klitschko-chris-byrd/147661 Actually, it said "Later, doctors told Vitali that, had he fought on, his career would have been over, that he would never have regained full, effective fighting use of his arm." However, I'm sure Dino is more qualified than multiple doctors who actually saw his injury and knows better than they do. Byrd winning this fight is like me beating Tiger Woods at golf because Woods injures his back early in the game and retires after doing so and I "win" by default even though I couldn't score less than a hundred even if my life depended on it. Actually, Byrd's win is sort of like Vitali's win over Solis when his knee (or WTF it was) blew out at the end of the first round.
No , you are exaggerating. The article was about the fight , not about doctors. The article does not feature any quotes from "multiple" doctors The article was written by a guy giving his own take on what happened and he claims a doctor said Vitali's career would have ended if he fought on. Where's the proof?
It is just revised history. He would not have quit if he think he would win. Have to also remember that he didnt know judges bull**** cards at that moment and everyone who boxes know those few extra rounds are not as easy as people think
This content is protected Educate yourself. The trainer is begging him to continue. Vitali insists on quitting. Sorry to burst your bubble
Byrd’s win over Vitali Compubox: Vitali landed 132/502 (missing 370), Byrd landed 124/284 (missing 160) Byrd was much more economical and consistently made Vitali miss (defence being a factor in scoring), which could have caused Vitali’s allegedly serious shoulder injury. Vitali failed to hurt Byrd over 9 rounds. If Vitali had an injury starting in the 3rd round as he claimed, why was he throwing punches with both hands throughout the fight? And why did he wait around at ringside post-fight doing interviews rather than immediately going to the hospital? He was supposed to be in agonising pain: “It hurts too much, stop the fight”. Boxrec: 87-84 Vitali, rounds 5 and 9 clearly for Byrd, 3 (Vitali), 7 (Byrd) and 8 (Vitali) swings Byrd was a late sub clear B-side in Germany against 27-0, 27 KO’s superman WBO titlist Vitali; it’s no surprise that Byrd was only given two rounds. And scorecards don’t necessarily have much relation to the competitiveness of the fight. Vitali (who had never been in a competitive pro boxing match previously) quit with three rounds remaining, having got the worst of it in the previous five rounds, especially the 9th. Why did he quit? Likely because the gassing Vitali was worried about being dominated for the remaining nine minutes or even being punched to a stoppage loss by the much smaller man. Preferable instead to quit and invent/exaggerate an injury to muddy the waters. The fact that Vitali quit after 9 suggests that he either didn’t believe he was winning by a sufficiently wide margin to cruise the last three rounds or that he was on the brink of collapse (or both). Vitali never pursued a rematch with Byrd, letting the better stylistically suited Wlad “avenge” his loss for him and Vitali was back in the ring inside 8 months.
