I disagree. Only because the only fighter of note he faced in this "prime" version of Bowe was Holyfield. Who was still viewed by many at the time as a blown up Cruiser. Bowe faced a shot Dokes and journeyman Ferguson as champ. Who was there to say that he would be capable of beating good fighters that equaled in size? Tubbs arguably defeated him. He was wasting time with guys like Tijllery. I'm sorry but getting drawn into a war with Holyfield and then losing the rematch is not enough for me to unequivocally declare Bowe ko's the K brothers. In fact I believe he loses to both of them. Mathis jr frustrated him and he should of been Dq'd. He went low on the undersized CoetZer.
Thing is Holy was an excellent fighter with huge heart and Bowe faced that and overcame. If you look at Bowe physically during that time period his physique just looks different from all other times in his career....as if he was really training. Futch I am sure motivated him during this period. He had an excellent inside game and was strong enough to avoid clinching and come back with power shots. I see Bowe dominating in close and even money long range with his own jab and right cross.
I think the Bowe of the first Holyfield fight beats him in a terrific battle. Vitali had the mental strength and discipline Bowe lacked but Rid**** had better tools. In addition, Vitali was not the one shot killer Lennox or his brother was. One hell of an amazing matchup in my book.
A great fight. Vitali is tough as nails, mentally and physically in my opinion. In a way though, I see him as kind of an anomaly, a guy who succeeded despite being technically incorrect and looking awkward/sloppy in many ways. Bowe at his best was technically much better but also had the power to back it up. I think Bowe would TKO him between rounds 5-10.
bowe would bring pressure behind that jab like in the gonzales fight, and back vitali to the ropes...vitali has no inside game, sloppy past prime lewis destroyed him inside, imagine what prime bowe would do...
Fantastic match. Bowe would start out strong, but Vitali workmanship wont stop. He will eventually break down Bowe, But Vitali will catch hell, ( perhaps even moreso than with Lewis) Vitali out toughs Bowe in the end. Unless he gets cut.
Bowe outjabs Vitali, batters him on the inside, and stops him within 7. Slick boxers troubled Bowe. Bowe would feel the heat and apply relentless pressure. Say Vitali does outjab Bowe, same deal. Bowe was too athletic and powerful. Remember Holy said Bowe hit harder than Foreman and Tyson, just saying. I agree with the Lewis argument, Bowe does it more efficiently.
I have to give Vitali klitschko the edge and for many of the same reasons already stated. Bowe suffered defensively and made poor use of his physical attributes - many of which wouldn't even be advantages against Vitali who was the larger and probably stronger man. I think it could have been a very competitive fight though assuming we get the right rendition of bowe which was around 1991-1993. The Andrew Golata fights shouldn't weigh too much into the equation.. Bowe no longer had futch in his corner, had lost his edge and had taken a lot of wear and tear in tough fights.. That and Andrew fought dirty and disgracefully.. Rid**** also looked poor against tubbs in 91 but he still deserved that win and tony was slick that evening.. Vitali had some trouble with aged foes too.. Lewis and sanders were both in their late thirties, off for a year and at career high weights when they fought Vitali yet one forced a stoppage while the other gave him a good fight... I still favor Vitali but on the right evening it would be interesting.
