I dunno. Vitali has very little power, but the size differential is so big he'll have enough clout to put Tom away at some point. Two, three rounds max I imagine.
Vitali's power is certainly overstated ,he usually lands multiple shots before his better opponents hit the floor, but he can hit allright.
Can´t see a scenario in which Sharkey would win.....No way..... He´s tough , good chin, but Vitali would beat him by TKO, 4 or 5 rounds.....
Vitali Klit is very heavy handed..... He beats dude's senseless.... He murders Tom Sharkey inside 10 rds.... MR.BILL
Correct, Vitlai is certainly a puncher. Imagine if he had lighter gloves to work with? Some critics will point out that Vitali knocks his men out through an accumulation of punches. While this is true for the most part, it is also true that Vitali is a patient boxer puncher type. He does not commit to his best power shots until later on in the match. When his man is hurt, Vitlai is a good finisher. How many shots did Dempsey have to hit Willard to finish him off? How many shots did it take Louis to get Abe Simon out of there? Max Baer hit Primo with many power shots as well. Sharkey was a no retreat, no surrender type of brawler who hit hard, took a good punch, and had stamina to fight for 20+ rounds. Some compare Sharkey to Marciano, but in this fight, the sailor would lack the range and accuracy of his guns to pull off an upset.
Briggs at 265 pounds is a massive mutha' who's tuff as nails.... Of course his skills are shady and has had suspect stamina before, but he obviously can take a punch / punches..... WTF? bbb V.K. can punch like a mule kicks.....:yep:good MR.BILL:hat
Which is why Lennox got rid of him when he was much closer to his prime. Vitali is dog**** as a fighter.
Dempsey broke Big Ben Wray's,[ 7'2"300lbs ] jaw in two places with one punch, he half killed Willard in a 3 rounds massacre. Louis hit Braddock so hard with one right cross he drove his teeth through his mouthpiece , he made giant Buddy Baer turn a perfect piroutte with one right hand, and knocked Paulino's gold teeth all over the canvas, he lifted 233 3/4lbs Galento off his feet with one left hook. Louis kod many men with ONE punch. Vitali beats on people allnight before they finally fall,he had target practice on Briggs, Sosnowski, Adamek, and Williams, to name just four, he is a good but not a dynamite puncher.
Briggs didn't get knocked out but his nose was broke and his left orbital bone was crushed, leaving him hospitalized. I would rather have been knocked out than have my face beat in. I don't think Vitali was very accurate or he just didn't aim for the chin, he mostly beat the side of Brigg's face as he tried to unsuccessfully roll from the punches. I think to make up for his slowing hands, Vitali just volume punches his opponent's head, hitting whatever he can and inflicting as much as damage as possible. He couldn't find Brigg's chin too often so he just beat the left side of his face all night.
Messy fight I think Vit is a massive massive man and tends to stand his ground- he doesn't really have the speed snap or torque to rip his shots and he doesn't really use leverage or his opponents dead weight at all. Tom Sharkey strikes me as being utterly fearless and as stubborn a fighter as it's probably possible to be - him and Jeffries looked like a couple of rutting stags going at eachother - I guess Tom Sharkey would likely not back down from anyone no matter how big and strong they were so Sailor Tom would be charging at Vit every chance he could wriggle free Vit would probably leaned down on him everytime he charged in - how long Sharks stamina held up is anyone's guess but he really be struggling to have an impact as it went on - early stages might be VERY interesting as everytime I watch Vitali I'm saying to myself he'd get a shock if someone just threw caution to the winds and just charged at him swinging awaywith little thought for getting hit back - Sharkey is just that mentality - but in the end it would be too his detriment even if he could wow the crowd by genuinely worrying Vitali a couple of times with his reckless abandon - Vitali is a world champion and I do think it would take another 'world champion' to beat him generally especially so coupled with the sheer size of the job
You all seem to be going on the late 30s and 40 year old Vitali we've seen in recent years whose power diminished massively post retirement. Old Vitali and young Vitali are two different guys when it comes to KO power. I expect Hide and Kirk Johnson would last into the late rounds against old Vitali but got taken out early against young Vitali I expect young Vitali would have taken Adamek out in the first 3 rounds. Probably Sosnowski too, and Briggs wouldn't see the end of the fight
