Two stories here. One quoting Vitali as saying the $1.5m offer was a take it or leave it final offer, and then another article saying Valuev has accepted a $2.5m offer Vitali (on being in St Petersburg); "It wasn't my goal for going there. I had scheduled several meetings of a personal nature, and besides, I was together with my wife Natalia. We were invited to the Mariinsky Theatre for a music festival. I also met with my possible next opponent. Of course I'm talking about one of the most famous athletes in St. Petersburg - Nikolai Valuev," Klitschko told Pravda. "It is always better to communicate without intermediaries so the information is not distorted. The less middlemen, the better." "I offered Nikolai one and a half million American dollars for a fight. I'm not going to bargain. If he refuses this offer, I shall box against other contender - someone who is high up in the rankings. For Nikolai, motivation should be enough. In fact, he gets the opportunity to fight for the most prestigious championship belt - which was owned at one time by Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis. Regardless, there is a purse attached for an amount that he never received in the past, even when he was the champion." This has been discussed before here. The $2.5 million offer was from January of this year ( when the EURO was trading at $1.45) for a big fight in a football stadium. Valuev and Don King priced themselves out by demanding a firm $4 million and consequently the fight went to unknown Sosnowski. Now Vitali offered Valuev $1.5 million (1.2 million EUROs) for a fight in October, probably in a smaller venue. We will see if Valuev realizes that this may be his last paycheck. From what we know so far no formal agreement has been reached yet.
The article claiming Team Valuev accepted the 2.5m offer is only ten days old, but now I think of it the picture of Vitali and Valuev probably isn't that old :huh Ah, whatever. He should accept 1.5m or just **** off for good
This is the best matchup to be made right now in the Heavies, so Im hoping a deal gets reached, soon. I'll take Vitali all day by UD or late round TKO by way of the ref stopping it because it will be so lopsided. But Valuev is game, and wont go down. He needs to take this payday and retire. Like it says, it would easily be the biggest payday of his career.
You're either giving Vitali too much credit or you're thinking Valuev is far more past it then I think he is. Granted, prime SNV ruthlessly murders prime Vitali, we all know this (Even Mr. Bill). But, some think that Valuev, being so much larger has aged worse, and he has. But he's still three times the fighter Vitali is, unlike the 10 times more the fighter in their respective primes. In short, Valuev KO Vitali 4 if he's feeling it or if he's still holding to his Buddhist roots and being merciful to the extreme, UD12 or TKO by RTD.
The article claiming they accepted may be 10 days old, the offer however is from January for a fight in May though. How can Valuev accept that offer now, considering it already has expired and was filled by Sosnowski in May?
Whenever Vitali was in the ring with ATGs he quit or was taken out of the fight. See his matches with Byrd and Lewis. The only logical conclusion is that he will lose by stoppage to ATG Nicolai Valuev.
You've got your continuity mixed up. Don King accepted Vitali's offer for $2.5 million that was no longer on the table. That offer was made before Valuev lost his belt (and what was left of his credibility) to Haye. The current offer, and the one Vitali personally went to see Valuev about, is for $1.5 million.
The $2.5M was offered when Valuev had an option on another big fight (the Haye rematch), and K2 tried to outbid that fight, only to get ridiculously refused by Don King (asking $4M ). Now that the Haye rematch is off the table and Valuev turned down the Solis eliminator, Niko has absolutely NOTHING scheduled, is in no mandatory position, and will only get a title fight if someone offers him on his own terms. That's what the $1.5M is about, take it or leave it. Don King is getting Don Kinged here, I love it!
Valuev also has a pattern: outclassing his overmatched opponents. Systematically breaking them down, then DROPPING THE BOMB. In the twilight of his career he's become more methodical. Not the mauling bruiser of yore. In his prime, he would crush Vitali inside of a round, no more than two. These days it will go longer, but only as long as Niko wants. He can stop Vitali at any moment, it's just a matter of when. No one can hang with SNV. Dynamite in both hands. Cat-like reflexes. WAR! Can't be touched, can't be stopped. He cold!
Vitali ducks Brian Minto again. Oh well, he'll have to deal with another HOF caliber HW in Valuev. My gut says he quits around the 5th round.
Valuev's bullwhip-like jabs will tear the skin off of Vitali's face. It will be a brutal, one-sided blood letting.
