Vitali Klitschko vs. Juan Carlos Gomez had more viewers in a much smaller market than Kirkland-Julio, JMM-Diaz, Campbell-Funeka, Mosley-Margarito and Berto-Collazo combined.
That was a world- wide event mate. Even the newspapers in Sweden were absolutely filled up with pre-fight hype.
Then again, I highly doubt that number unless I see an article with confirmed ratings. It's good to say one billion watched it, but I feel it's just as real as rumors stating Don King offered $100M to a Klitschko-Klitschko fight. Ali-Foreman was huge. 1 billion? Definitely not possible.
1 billion? And you're suggesting he not get out of hand? There were 4 billion on earth in 1974. Almost 1 billion in China, who probably weren't watching too closely. And you think that 1 billion is accurate? That 11 million number in Germany is impressive, though. The Haye/Wlad numbers will be interesting. Arguably the biggest fight ever staged in Germany? (I have no idea really, just guessing?)
I've heard numerous reports of 1billion watching the event in Zaire. http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2004/oct/30/boxing . Yeah it might be rubbish, I don't know.. wasn't around at that time It wouldn't surprise me if they broke 500m at least.. boxing was on a different level back then and people could actually tune in all over the world to see it.
Haye is absolutely unknown, a total nobody in Germany. The Gomez fight did so great numbers because he fought there, in the same team as Vitali, was the CW champion and had this bad blood in between them. Corrie Sanders, Chris Byrd and Sam Peter were all more familiar names in Germany when the brothers fought them for the 2nd time, because there was a first fight. Vitali-Wladimir is the biggest possible fight in Germany, Klitschko-Valuev is probably the 2nd, Strum-Abraham the 3rd. Klitschko-Haye doesn't even come close, but like every typical Klitschko fight, it will do very good ratings.
